Ghost Stories at Christmas

Hey everyone, for the first time ever I am hosting my family at Christmas...apart from mum and in-laws we are all seventies children (13 altogether) and I thought it might be fun to show a few of the BBC ghost stories when the kids have gone to bed and we are all relaxing with a beverage or two.

Any suggestions?

The original made for tv version of The Woman in Black. Available on Youtube, not sure of dvd. Otherwise the Harry Potter Danial Radcliffe version. Albeit not 70s.

Ooh! I love a Christmas ghost story!

Whistle and I’ll Come to You is the classic. It was repeated a few years ago late on Xmas eve, so it’s possible it’s floating around online somewhere.
There’s a new one coming out this year, too. It’s in the style of the old fashioned ghost tales and written by Mark Gatiss, which is always a good sign!

A new one you say, Dan? Ok that sounds brilliant!
Whistle and I'll Come to You is a classic but one i have never actually watched. I will definitely add that! I would LOVE to see it!
The Woman in Black - I remember in the eighties it coming on TV and mum and dad saying that I was too young...not any more so that is perfect for Christmas!
Thank you all so much!

I am thinking of showing La Cabina as well because it is scary and I love it but unsure if it strikes the right Christmassy tone?

The original Woman in Black will have you hiding behind the sofa and sleeping with the lights on! I'm 43 and it still gives me the heeby jeebies Grin

I have this six DVD set from the BFI - it's worth getting, as there's loads on it.

I can vividly remember watching the original woman in black when it was released on Xmas eve in 1989.

There's a trip of Ghost Stories on Christmas Eve ( Simon Callow in the first one)

Crooked House is good (Mark Gatiss)

CountryGirl is La Cabina the one with the phonebox?

TheCountryGirl · 19/12/2018 21:44

70 yes the short film with the phone box! I love it but it is terrifying. I was very young when i saw it...mum and dad used to let me and my sisters stay up and watch the BBC2 horror double biĺl. But one night I remember La Cabina was shown. So scary!!!
