Breakfast on Christmas day?

Hello!

There's me, DH, and the two DDs (aged 4 and 2) who will need breakfast Christmas morning. Would like to do something for breakfast a bit different to the normal cereal and toast, but ideally not too heavy as will be having a big Christmas lunch with my family from about 12.30-1ish. Was thinking of just getting croissants or something (which kids can eat whilst opening presents) but was wondering what everyone else is doing?

Bucks Fizz with either bacon sandwich or salmon & cream cheese. Or sometimes my mum makes a big performance of pancakes.

SweetPeaPods · 14/12/2018 21:22

Buck’s Fizz and Fresh coffee for adults
Bake in oven croissants with jams etc plus Fresh fruit.
Doubt the kids will eat any of it!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 14/12/2018 21:28

Champagne and Matchmakers. Breakfast of Christmas Champions

stoplickingthetelly · 14/12/2018 21:50

We have croissants and pain au chocolate with bucks fizz or orange juice. Everyone likes it, it's quick and easy with no real cooking etc and it's not too filling. Don't want to be messing around cooking breakfast when there's a big dinner to cook. We eat christmas dinner around 2ish.

ILoveDolly · 14/12/2018 21:52

I will be providing pancakes and cinnamon rolls with lashings of syrup and black coffee for us adults

ILoveDolly · 14/12/2018 21:53

Oh yeah and Terrys choc orange

GrumpyOldMare · 14/12/2018 21:53

We have what we always have,a cup of tea and toast or cereal.

delilahbucket · 14/12/2018 21:56

We have bacon and mushroom butties every year without fail. Always served with mimosas for adults and ds has orange juice in a champagne flute.

CakeNinja · 15/12/2018 00:06

We always have smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and bagels.
Glass of fizz for dp and I (don’t know why as neither of us really like it Confused ), dc have something like elderflower cordial or other juice.
We don’t eat our christmas dinner until about 4ish so have a late breakfast after opening presents.
I’m not feeling remotely festive yet, hoping I can get into the spirit of it this week!

Probably eggs benedict and some smoked salmon, spinach and some smoked meats and cheese from the charcuterie board from christmas eve, which gets added to over christmas eve, christmas day and boxing day. It's a nice picky thing to have if guests drop by that they can help themselves too without me having to cook.

NameChangeToAvoidBeingFound · 15/12/2018 00:26

Posted too soon, I'll have this around six or seven and my mum will make bacon, sausage, egg sandwiches for my sisters and their partners and children at half 8 so they're ready as they're walking through the door. I'm taking a different approach to Christmas this year, which involves pampering myself and my mum. Time for new traditions I think.

umizoomi · 15/12/2018 01:06

Chocolate

I usually buy some in case they don't open the stocking fast enough Grin

MonsterKidz · 15/12/2018 01:27

Crossainta filled with cheese and ham.

Have done bacon rolls in the past or smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels.

My DC barely eat anything...

redfairy · 15/12/2018 04:21

Sorry, no sensible suggestion from me. I'm in awe of all of you that have these delicious breakfasts. I hit the Guylian seashells then it's off to church.

Alfie190 · 15/12/2018 04:41

I like English muffins with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. But I think this year I will do home made waffles with maple bacon and scrambled eggs washed down with mimosas.

HoHoHolittlepea · 15/12/2018 05:11

We usually have bagels with smoked salmon and scrambled egg,
but this year my daughter loves the jus roll cinnamon rolls so probably those and fruit. Naice orange juice with bits in too.

redmimi · 15/12/2018 05:22

We'll have something easy like crumpets or brioche. This was a hit with small kids last year www.aldi.co.uk/christmas-tree-brioche/p/067731266299300

I did breakfast for family one Christmas when we were of course going to be having the 10 course 10 tonne lunch at 3pm.

I had tinned fruit(fruit cocktail, tinned peaches) and yoghurt (strawberry, low fat natural and greek). Walnuts and sesame seeds if they wanted to sprinkle over (nobody did apart from me, dd and exdh).
Crackers and different cheese slices (big hit with my sister).
Croissants (Chocolate filled and done for 5 seconds in the microwave to make them taste freshly baked). Big hit with my Mum.
All from Lidl, fed 6 adults and one child all for about £5
Oh and juices and coffee.

To be honest, the cheese and crackers were the biggest hit, as my family were expecting a full English (I was thinking of their hearts! Well, and my own figure).

Strong coffee and you can get sachets of latte type drinks in Lidl also which my mother is a fan of if you don't have a proper coffee machine.

It was lovely, there was enough variety there. I wasn't sure who'd go for what, so sort of just put the full amount of everything out so that nobody felt there was a shortage. Everyone loved it.

If I was doing Christmas brekkie again, I'd do exactly the same.

Heyjudas · 15/12/2018 05:34

Anything that was left over was put back in fridge and was used up.

BentNeckLady · 15/12/2018 06:30

Bagels with smoked salmon, cream cheese and spring onions. Toblerone.

knittedjest · 15/12/2018 06:40

Dh makes homemade cinnamon rolls and french toast for the little ones and salmon eggs benedict for the big ones.

Purplehammer · 15/12/2018 08:30

Pork pie and toast with mugs of ‘builders’ tea.
Goes back generations.

WWYDhelpplease · 15/12/2018 09:00

Fry up, coffee and champagne followed by chocolate and twiglets and cheesy footballs.

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 15/12/2018 09:33

The adults always have bacon sarnies or eggs benedict and the children can choose from Nutella on Christmas tree waffles, bacon sandwiches or one of the selection cereal pack boxes. Adults have Buck's Fizz and children have fresh orange juice. Usually we let the kids have a chocolate from their stocking too.

LaChatte · 15/12/2018 09:43

Toblerone and clementines, straight out of the stockings.
