Best new board game for family, with teenagers

I’d like to buy us a new game this year. It doesn’t need to be very new as I don’t think I’ve bought us a new game in quite a few years. We still get monopoly out regularly but everything else seems to have lost favour.
Any recommendation gratefully received. We have a 14 year old DD and a 17 year old DS.
TIA

We love 5 Second Rule as everyone can play, but it's quite silly.

jocktamsonsbairn · 13/12/2018 22:35

Exploding kittens?

myrtleWilson · 13/12/2018 22:37

What other games have you played to get a sense of your interests...

We've bought Flammerouge recently which was fun. Equally a bit more old school would be Pandemic if you want a collaborative route. Sushi YO is supposed to be good for a quick game - but in that category I love Love Letters...

Almondio · 13/12/2018 22:38

Have you tried Blokus? It's fun, quick to set up and play. We like Sorry (old but good) and have just bought a game (can't remember the name!) with headphones where you have to guess what an opponent is saying...looks good but haven't played it yet.
Articulate is always good, and Apples to Apples (family friendly version of Cards against Humanity).

defineme · 13/12/2018 22:41

Labyrinth is good and we live scrabble, tbh though mine are similar ages and are asking for cards of humanity , but I can't imagine playing it as a family!

Titsywoo · 13/12/2018 23:48

I just got the What do you Meme game as i thought cards against humanity was too risque for my young teens and although it's supposed to be 18+ apparently the meme game has the mature content in a separate pack so you can remove those before you start playing.

Noddythefirst · 14/12/2018 00:06

Scattergories is a hit with all ages here. You have a letter dice and have to find 10 things with that letter in (I think) 2 minutes. Great fun and esy to transport

ImportantWater · 14/12/2018 00:07

Catan or Carcassone?

1hello2hello · 14/12/2018 00:12

I've bought - Weird things people search for. Not an actual board but looks like should be fun.

Iloveautumnleaves · 14/12/2018 00:20

I love Risk

Nothing like a bit of world domination!! 🤣

Glitterbubbles · 14/12/2018 00:21

Ticket To Ride is one of our favourites, or Articulate?

Sillybilly1234 · 14/12/2018 00:24

We love Balderdash.

mrsfollowill · 14/12/2018 00:25

Just bought 'The Chase' ready for Xmas we'll see what it is like!

WhoTookTheChristmasCookie · 14/12/2018 00:27

Articulate is one of the best games ever.
I really like Speak Out too.

If you don't mind WW3, you can never go wrong with Monopoly - takes nerves of steel in this house though.
I still haven't recovered from the PTS of our last attempt.

Romanticrights · 14/12/2018 00:34

Another vote for Balderdash! Also love Articulate!

DyslexicNotThick · 14/12/2018 00:39

We love "Ion", it's a card game with a difference. Channels the competitive sibling streak without ending in world war three.
Winning depends on luck of the cards drawn and strategic playing of the cards.

Almondio · 14/12/2018 06:21

We have a Monopoly World Travel version which is brilliant as it has the essence of the original but is usually over in less than an hour, thus saving time, sanity and fractured family relationships Grin.

Labyrinth is really good fun. I love the idea of Speak Out but can't get over the thought of all that saliva...Confused

mckenzie · 14/12/2018 08:42

Thank you so much for the ideas. I’m going to look at all of them.
Monopoly in our house can go on for days, even weeks sometimes. Which is great for keeping the DCs off gadgets but rubbish for eating as the dinner table is covered in Monopoly!
