Christmas Day game?

Hello all. DH and I (mid thirties) are spending Christmas with my parents this year. We will be joined by Dad's sister and her DP and their three teens (15,17,18) as well as my brother and his GF (early thirties). So 11 of us in total.

I've included the numbers and ages as I'd like to ask you for ideas for a game to play after Christmas lunch? We usually do something similar to this www.whiteelephantrules.com after we've eaten but would like to do something else as well :) happy to buy a boxed game if people can recommend something that's any good (no to Cards Against Humanity for obvious reasons, and suspect that both Monopoly and Trivial Pursuit would result in bloodshed so best avoided!)

Ahhh thank you all so much! I posted on Sunday morning and didn't get any notifications, but popped back just now and loads of ideas! Am busy looking them all up.

Exploding kittens is great fun, and we’ve got bears vs babies coming this year which is by the same company and looks equally daft.

Can somebody please tell me what Exploding Kittens actually is like to play? It sounds like the kind of thing DS1 would love and DH might find amusing but I can't seem to find any actual description of the game mechanism itself??

I love a game of Articulate and it can be hilarious to play with lots of people. Dd is getting bugs in the kitchen to play with her hexbug nanos so I'm hoping that will be a good one.

Exploding kittens is basically a card game - there are exploding kitten cards hidden in the pack and the only aim of the game is not to pick an exploding kitten. There are various ways to avoid this by playing other cards, such as shuffle, attack and defuse. The graphics on the cards are very funny and although it’s simple you can be quite ruthless.

Aaah OK that makes sense :) Thanks!

This is simple but good if you cant be bothered or too tired to get a board game out.
Land, Sea or air.
Someone stands in middle of room, throws something like a clean hanky at someone and says either land or sea or air and counts to ten. Person with hanky in their lap has to think of answer. No duplicate answers permitted. If time runs out it is then their turn to stand up, if they name something then the person standing throws hanky to someone else and so on.

@minidoofer ‘a “name game” is even better if after all the names are out of the bowl (so everyone knows who’s in there), you put them back in and start again, but for round 2 you’re only allowed 2 utterances to describe your name (so if you go “oh no!” in despair that’s you done and your teammates have to guess anyway).

Then all back in and silent miming for round 3, at which point if you haven’t wept with laughter something is wrong!

Instead of Trivial Pursuit - which I hate because it's just a bragging "i know more than you" affair - I am forcing suggesting the Inlaws play Wits & Wagers - like trivial pursuit, but you get to bet on answers- so say your DBro is football fanatic, and you only vaguely know it involves people running round after a ball. when the question "who won the world cup in whatever year" you all put your answers in,and then you KNOW that DBro knows this, you put your chip on his answer - and get points heheheh

Either that or "Hive Mind" - wher eyou're all tying to get the same answers as each other - so it might be "name three cities in the UK" - and you want to go for London, Manchester and Edinburgh, - and you get points for every match. If you go for Truro or Lichfield or something becaus eyou;re a QUIZ MASTER - you'll get no points :P
