Keepsake ornaments - year of birth or year of 1st Christmas?

As I was decorating the tree earlier I hung my favourite (and only posh decoration) Georg jensen ornament. It's one of the yearly ones and made me think it would be lovely to get one each for the DC that when they leave home they could have. A nice family thing. DH doesn't see the point but then he's asked for a paper shredder and drain cleaning gloves for Christmas.

I'm not sure as I hunt these down to go for the ones from the years of their birth or the years of their first Christmas? Both are very late December babies so it is a different year. The 1st Christmas year ones are nicer too imo Grin

Go for first Christmas. My DD was born late Dec 2013 and her Christmas bauble is from 2014 for her first Christmas.

If it helps you decide, My friend makes hand embroidered Christmas decs and first Christmas ones are the most popular.
