Small and lovely socks? Or other ideas for my Mum

Any great ideas? She's not in particularly good health, so outdoorsy gifts (usually my go-to) not really appropriate now. Books also not so good as in the past as she mainly reads on Kindle, she can't drink alcohol now, and she definitely doesn't want 'stuff' for the house (so no candles etc).
Soft lovely socks have gone down well in the past, but she's a size 3 and I'm struggling to find good ones that aren't the standard size 4-7. But any other brilliant ideas warmly welcomed!

Sounds a bit like mine! Some ideas from past gifts: tickets to things, a magazine subscription, membership of cinema, cashmere jumper, membership to a museum, hot water bottle set and her favourite bath stuff from Crabtree & Evelyn, nice pen, special painting, silk scarf from museum shop, silver chain...I will try to think of some other things...

Sadik · 04/12/2018 21:37

Definitely on the right lines - tickets is generally a good call, but her health isn't really reliable enough at the moment to book things in advance (ditto my dad, so between the two of them last minute is the only option!)
Having said no home stuff, I've just seen this mug on another thread and am very tempted Grin

White Company Cashmere ballet slippers. A small fits size 3-4.

Sadik · 05/12/2018 13:02

White company is a good thought, I'll look there.

What magazines do you give? My DPs generally get a foody/lifestyle one each year with Tesco vouchers. In the past I've given subs to the London Review of books, but really it's a bit too London/pretentious for DM's taste & RHS mag but they don't do so much gardening these days.

I did give a sub to Cinema Paradiso DVD rental last year, but streaming is just so convenient that although they have a great range I think it fell by the wayside in favour of Netflix.

If she has a tablet of any description you could look at a Readly subscription - multiple magazines at once. There are a huge range on there - definitely something for everyone.

Amazon voucher so she can buy some books?

Fireandfury1 · 05/12/2018 15:15

Love the cups Grin
Would she like Private Eye?

FelicityLemon · 05/12/2018 15:21

How about a monthly tea delivery? e.g.
trueteacompany.co.uk/product/monthly-tea-subscription/

I have had a coffee and a chocolate one in the past and enjoyed both.

Sadik · 05/12/2018 19:23

Sadly my dps (and me - trained from an early age!) only drink PG tips type tea and instant coffee Grin

Amazon voucher is my fallback option RoseHarper - I usually go for that plus say some nice chocs if I'm really stuck. DM's birthday is just after Christmas, so good to come up with something different for at least one or the other...

The Oldie magazine is loved by my mum who sounds similar. Also heat pads as she sits still for long periods and gets cold.

AwkwardSquad · 05/12/2018 19:35

Falke socks come in small - size 2-5, I think. I get them for my mum. John Lewis stocks them.

AwkwardSquad · 05/12/2018 19:36

Or how about a cashmere wrap?

Sadik · 05/12/2018 19:41

Which ones do you like Awkward?

It’s hard to pick them out on the website, actually, but I think it’s the cotton touch and the soft merino ones. I really like the cuddle pads slipper socks, but they are generous in sizing so even the small would be too big for your mum.

MadeForThis · 09/12/2018 11:02

Bamboo socks?

MrsAird · 09/12/2018 11:05

a subscription to Slightly Foxed?

Stickerrocks · 09/12/2018 12:14

I gave my Mum a recycled cashmere baby blanket from Turtle Doves when she was poorly. It's only little, so she uses it if there's a draught near her fave chair.

villainousbroodmare · 09/12/2018 12:20

National Geographic subscription is a good one for most people.

Sadik · 09/12/2018 12:44

MadeforThis - I've actually ended up buying bamboo socks - I managed to track down the source of really nice ones a friend gave me for my birthday.

MrsAird I've never heard of Slightly Foxed and it looks perfect :). I think maybe a sub for Christmas and I'll then put the socks with something else for DM's birthday in January.
