Secret Santa gift for one who likes white wine and expensive skincare

I work as part of a national team and have picked someone who I don’t know well at all as she works in a different office. By chance, another colleague who works in that office was in my office today so I asked what recipient might like.

She said a nice white wine or champagne or “nice smellies” and the examples she used were Jo Malone and Crem de la Mer.

The budget is max £10 (and to be honest I wouldn’t be inclined to go much over bay when I don’t know the person).

Any suggestions?

I thought bottle of wine (but boring) or something small from Milton Brown like wine of their Christmas baubles or something like that...

Either of those sound perfect.

Maybe something skincare from The Ordinary, who do effective ingredients in a down to earth way...
theordinary.com

Skincare has more potential to not be used. I am quite precise about the stuff I use. I have seen the Molton Brown bauble, and that looks like a good hit.

Polkapjs · 04/12/2018 21:55

Yep. Bauble or a nice bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc would go down well with me though I’m more no 7 price range in face stuff Grin

AliceRR · 05/12/2018 13:07

Sorry just noticed all the typos!!

I know what you mean about skincare. I get a lot of beauty boxes and don’t use a lot of the stuff as I have so much

Other thought was like a caudalie hand cream trio or something like that

Or you can get a facial skincare one

Bottle of frexinet- the black one with gold writing. Super delicious cava, much much better than Prosecco in my opinion , on offer in both Asda and Tesco for a tenner (well it was last week)

AliceRR · 05/12/2018 14:27

Thanks @AprilSpring

I’m rubbish with wines etc so specific recommendations work well!

I feel you “can’t go wrong” with a bottle of wine (as long as you know the person drinks it) but then I wondered whether wine is boring as everyone tends to buy wine at Christmas?

AliceRR · 05/12/2018 14:28

@PolkaPJs Interestingly that’s the sort of wine my colleague (who knows her) suggested!

Aldi's Lot Series XI Australian Chardonnay at £10.99 is absolutely delicious.

or

The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil £9 is excellent

SimplyPut · 05/12/2018 14:31

Chilean Sauvignon blanc and a bar of dark chocolate!

AndThereSaw · 05/12/2018 14:33

I@occitaine hand cream.

Racecardriver · 05/12/2018 14:34

I would be careful with wine. I make a rule if otdrinkingcgeap alcohol, a lot of people do. I think your molton brown idea us good. Or if you area beauty pie member their candles are supposed to be really good.

Racecardriver · 05/12/2018 14:34

L’occitabehandcream as per pp is also really really good.

wednesday32 · 05/12/2018 14:52

I would go for either a Molton Brown bauble (£12), or a Liz Earle travel kit (£10 from Boots). They're both well know skincare brands that aren't cheap but will get more than one use out of them whereas the wine is gone in one sitting.x

Ellapaella · 05/12/2018 15:08

I agree with Molton Brown bauble - that's exactly what I've bought for our work secret Santa, I'd be really pleased with that if I received it myself.

tentative3 · 05/12/2018 15:40

What about a glass? There are a few on here:

www.ecookshop.co.uk/ecookshop/product.asp?pid=ST31802

If not, I agree with the Molton Brown bauble idea

SuperSuperSuper · 05/12/2018 16:19

There's a lovely NZ Sauvignon reduced from £10 to £7 in the Co-Op currently. You could add some Christmassy choc - job done.

WWYDhelpplease · 05/12/2018 16:27

There is a good code running with Elemis at the moment. XMAS10 for £10 off. You could get something decent hand wash or hand cream there.

Sparkletastic · 05/12/2018 16:41

Hand cream or a naice lip balm is a good shout. Freixenet also unlikely to dismay - they are doing some really cool bottle designs for Christmas.

NoWordForFluffy · 05/12/2018 18:12

Oyster Bay Sauv Blanc is nice. It usually comes in around your budget.

AliceRR · 05/12/2018 18:47

Lots of food for thought! Thank you 😊

Molton brown bauble

Freixenet bling bottles - I think they are £9 in tescos, Morrisons etc at moment

REN rose bath oil £10

Aromatherapy associates do a similar type tree gift for £9 or £10

Or jo malone dupe candle Pom noir from Aldi etc in range

AliceRR · 06/12/2018 08:29

The loccitane one is nice

I thought or the Aldi stuff too but she might either love it or hate it!

Probably safer to go with an “original” brand

Another idea, this face mist is gorgeous!

Otherwise you can't go wrong with a Milton Brown bauble
