If you have outdoor lights, where are you plugging them in?

More specifically, how are you running the cable into the house?
I really want them, but can't see one fittings in the door and managing to get it shut? And leaving the window open not an option!

Mine have a very thin wire that I discovered last year I could run through the sliding patio doors and still close and lock them. But I wish I'd got an external socket!

If you have a garage with an up and over door can you run the wire under the door (assumes you've got a socket in the garage though too).

Mine is a thin wire that goes under the front door with no problem.

babysharkah · 03/12/2018 14:22

Ours go through the bedroom window no problem with it shutting .

HauntedPencil · 03/12/2018 14:24

I'm going to try solar ones for our tree outside! I got them from Amazon

We have thin wires (well regular wires really) that the windows easily shut and lock over.

Elfinablender · 03/12/2018 14:34

Yeah, like annoyed, our wire fits through the window and still closes.

Battery operated (rechargeable) for outside trees, front door shuts with the thin cable running under it for the porch fairy lights.

cocoallure · 03/12/2018 14:58

We got an electrician to fit them, he ran cables out through the wall.

cocoallure · 03/12/2018 14:59

Sorry obvs am to an outdoor socket to plug them in!!

WakeUpSlow · 03/12/2018 15:01

Wilko do really nice battery operated outdoor Christmas lights.

ByeGermsByeWorries · 03/12/2018 15:45

I have a box of battery operated ones from wilko for £7. Not very extravagant just simple ones with different flash settings, but I don't want to annoy the people opposite so I just have them on slow fade but there are about 8 different patterns.

Can I ask a stupid question please?

We've bought outside lights for the first time and have an outdoor socket but I'm wondering how it'll work. Outdoor socket has a plastic cover over which lifts up when something is plugged in. Won't water get inside if we plug lights in and it rains? Do we need to cover it with something and if so how?

Sorry for highjacking your thread OP

Even through double glazed windows/doors?

Yes, even through double glazed windows. The window shuts properly with the cable coming through.

Stompythedinosaur · 04/12/2018 21:56

Our cable fits through the bedroom window seal without any problem.

We use battery lights around the door.
