Best

Silent Night - Sinead O'Connor
Little Drummer Boy - Bing Crosby and David Bowie

Worst:
Fairytale of NY and Mistletoe and Wine.

BeardofZeus · 01/12/2018 08:14

I cannot stand the pogues, but love chris de burgh!!

Thesmallthings · 01/12/2018 08:31

I work in a nursery and we've been practising Christmas carols 20 mins 3 times a day at work since October.

Here we go to Bethlehem is the worst song ever. It's so repetitive and way to long for our young ones.

I quite like when Santa got stuck and jingle bells.

ipswichwitch · 01/12/2018 08:37

Best:
Christmas in Hollis - Run DMC
Driving home for Christmas - Chris Rea
Merry Christmas Everyone - Shakin stevens

Worst:
All I want for Christmas - Mariah Carey
Fairytale of New York

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/12/2018 10:32

I'm due to give birth at Xmas. I keep telling DP that I want Mistletoe and Wine playing whilst I'm in labour (he detests that song)

I had "Fairytale of New York " playing with DS birth (he's 19 next week) it was always my favourite song and even going through labour didn't diminish it Xmas Grin

Love "Christmas Wrapping" and "The Frogs Chorus" (not Christmassey but it was released near Christmas )

Least favourite - "Wish it could be Christmas every day"

Badtasteflump · 01/12/2018 10:33

I love all the above - although I avoid listening to the John Lennon one as it makes me sad.

I also love ‘December Will Be Magic Again’ by Kate Bush. I forgot about it until I was watching ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ with the DC when they were little and that song started & brought back memories of Christmas when I was really young. Now every time I hear it I get severe Christmas tingles!

sueelleker · 01/12/2018 19:09

Love;
Fairytale Of New York
Winter's Tale
and Last Christmas (but only if the video comes with it!)
Hate;
Driving Home For Christmas (sounds so dreary)

ChristmasWrappingTheWaitresses · 01/12/2018 19:11

My favourite is my current user name

My worst is Cliff Richard blurgh

Sniv · 01/12/2018 20:14

My favourites come in two flavours: ethereal, sparkling, mysterious Christmas magic (Carol of the Bells, December will be Magic, Walking in the Air), or the sort of thing that reminds me of dancing like a thing possessed at an infant school disco (Merry Xmas Everyone, I Wish it could be Christmas Everyday).

My least favourites are anything that might be included on a Daily Mail 'Crooners at Christmas' CD (of which my parents seem to have about 50), and anything at all by Micheal Buble, especially as my partner is a huge fan and has full control of what we listen to in the car.

However, they are nohting, nothing compared to the cynical, soulless, shitfest that is "Wonderful Dream (Holidays Are Coming)" sang by Melanie Thornton i.e.: the full length version of the Coca Cola ad song. I quite like the ad, but the single they made is actually genuinely sick -making with its faux-ernest lyrics about HOPE and PEACE and DREAMS (sample: "let the magic dry your tears and heal your heart" "now the children's eyes are shining, like they've never shone before, let their dreams and aspirations light our way, living life in harmony forever more"), in a song designed to flog crappy fizzy drinks. Spare me.

A Jim Reeves Christmas album evokes memories of childhood Christmases. I have older parents.

Songs like The Merry Christmas Polka Silver Bells and Senor Santa Claus are on there. its very old.

The Fizz (formerly Bucks Fizz) have a Christmas album out "Christmas with The Fizz. Might get it for DM.
