Can you make your own personalised Christmas cards?

So I was thinking about ordering some Christmas cards from vista print for my fitness business to give to clients and thought maybe I could just buy some nice card and make my own?

Any tips or ideas to make them actually look good and professional and not home made and rubbish

Any idea what type of card you would need to print on?

I do photos which I attach to plain cardstock with glue dots, generous with glue dots. I use cream linen paper to print the basic message for the inside and cut around with craft scissors and glue dots again to hold it and write my personalised message with a gold pen. It takes me about 6 hours to do 50 cards while watching telly, the longest parts are cutting the messages.
