Rainie130 · 23/11/2018 11:55

Can I ask what is your total Christmas spend?
I'm expecting the total bill toaround 2.5k
5 kids, 2 & their partners, hubby, parents, brother & sisters, nieces and nephews, food decorations, cards and small teacher gifts.
Saved all year.

I am about the same maybe a bit more ,i have 5 children too age 21 down to 5 years old, and we also save all year. Since being on here ive found that i overspend as others have alot less to spend x

OhTheRoses · 23/11/2018 13:03

About £3k but includes cards, trees (I have them delivered and put up and lit), we host too and add on theatre/concert tickets, cost of an Xmas black tie dinner etc. But we don't spend much on presents: about £700-£800. Am guessing from that we could cut it drastically.

HairyToity · 23/11/2018 13:11

£500 tops.

Why do you ask? It all sounds really boastful, so in the interests of balance and hopefully making others feel less shit....£200 on presents (which still feels too much, but I have 8 nieces/nephews, 4 sets of grandparents, as well as my own child and husband to buy for), then £100 on food for Christmas Day and hosting two separate family get togethers.

tomhazard · 23/11/2018 13:28

2.5k? That's a lot and I wouldn't spend anything like it. £100 per dc, £20 on DH, £50 on my mum. £100 or so on tree, food, secs.

tomhazard · 23/11/2018 13:29

decs Grin

BlowPoke · 23/11/2018 13:32

Agree Marzipan (and love your username!). This kind of thing is what makes people on mumsnet think everyone else is drinking champagne and sleeping on a bed of £100 notes.

We spend about £500, and give about that much to various charities (there’s my boast). My kids have so much more than they need and i hate buying for the sake of buying.

Rixera · 23/11/2018 13:33

£60 for us lot- me, DP, DD, cat
£50 food
£40 family (making personalised edible gifts in presentation boxes, £10 limit for kids gifts)
£50 everybody else.
So £200 tops really, have been putting bits away wherever possible throughout the year.

Rainie130 · 23/11/2018 13:38

It wasn't meant to be boastful. We have such a large family and there is always a gift for everyone. I've suggested in previous years that we only buy for the children, but that didn't go down too well.

I’m hoping to Lee mine to £500 including all family gifts and food. Oldest son is paying 70% towards his new phone as we can’t afford the whole amount

thaegumathteth · 23/11/2018 13:47

Presents £1.2k maybe?

Decorations - £30?

Food £150?

thaegumathteth · 23/11/2018 13:49

Christmas ‘events’ maybe £300 as we are going to a show this year. Usually MUCH less.

ShinyRuby · 23/11/2018 13:50

All in probably about £900, this includes dd's (15 & 17) presents, all family & friends gifts, food, drink & a few extras such as work do/ drinks etc. Surprised it's so much when I think about it. Honestly thought it was about £500....😐

WendyCope · 23/11/2018 13:56

1 DD and 1 DH but in Spain so have to order crackers etc online which is expensive, but everything else from scratch and TIGER (I love TIGER!)

About 200 euros, mostly things DD needs TBH and a small modest stocking for DH. I am getting a jar of marmite! Grin I got all stocking stuff in Hawkins Bazzar sale last January though, for almost nothing, so have forgotton that! Also I buy a few things (headphones for DD etc) throughout the year.

All in all 200 euros tops.

WendyCope · 23/11/2018 13:58

Normal roast dinner food shop plus fizz!

WendyCope · 23/11/2018 14:03

Rainie I don't buy for any family as we don't talk. So that saves a lot! I think once you add in nieces and nephews, aunts grandparents etc it becomes SO expensive.

I also suggested token 5 pound presents back in the day but my mother had a histrionic fit! This is when everyone was over 25 and nobody had children!

Lazybonita · 23/11/2018 14:03

Honestly, all added up it’s probably about £2,500. That would be Dh, me and two ds plus our parents and ds sister and teacher presents. Also money on trees and decorations, food and drink and theatre and day trips. I know it’s a lot, we never used to have a lot of money so in the past have spent a lot less.

CaseStudyResearch · 23/11/2018 14:11

Presents for others: £200
Presents for DH: £280

Might add in a couple of new baubles/decorations, so maybe 20-30?

We’re at my parents for Christmas so no food costs. I’ve got £50 in M&S vouchers won at work for treat food for us between 28th and New Year.

mummymayhem18 · 23/11/2018 14:13

About £3000 on all presents for hubby, daughter,my mum,in laws and niece and nephew.
£200 for Christmas dinner, buffet for Boxing Day. Already have most of the alcohol.

Pompom42 · 23/11/2018 14:16

Same as you £2,000 ish.
Xmas trips planned, Disney on ice at O2, panto with diversity in it, expensive Santa experience thing.
2 DDs, parents, brother, childminder, ex husband, secret Santa at work and 1 friend to buy for.
New Year's Eve meal out etc

WheelyCoteClaus · 23/11/2018 14:20

1000 all in. Presents and food.

OhTheRoses · 24/11/2018 12:20

I would hope though, say in 5/10 years that if the DC have DC and mortgages and things are tight, they can come to us and keep their spends down.

Stringervest · 24/11/2018 12:30

Maybe £500. Around £300 on presents to cover DH, toddler, niece, two sets of parents and an elderly aunt. The rest on food, alcohol, a couple of new decorations and petrol to visit relatives.

We agree not to exchange gifts with remaining family members. We all prefer to buy for ourselves when we need it. So many unwanted gifts are given each year and then what happens to them? So much STUFF, always STUFF. I hate all the waste.

I wouldn’t be up for spending £3,000 on Christmas, that’s our annual holiday budget! I just don’t personally think it is or should be necessary. Each to their own, I guess.

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 24/11/2018 12:37

Too much really @ €2.5k but that includes some outings such as Santa experience, cinema and lunch, ice skating and also meeting friends for dinner, all spread through December. Plus we have 11 nieces and nephews we buy gifts for. That seemed like a nice idea when siblings had just started having babies, we didn't really anticipate so many!
