Rainie130 · 23/11/2018 11:55

Can I ask what is your total Christmas spend?
I'm expecting the total bill toaround 2.5k
5 kids, 2 & their partners, hubby, parents, brother & sisters, nieces and nephews, food decorations, cards and small teacher gifts.
Saved all year.

Ooh, interesting. If I've done maths right, 1.5%

WitBeyondMeasure · 25/11/2018 00:12

My husband gets paid four weekly so it works out we get 13 pay days a year. We pay our mortgage monthly so it works out every year we have a spare mortgage payment from the pay cheques. £650. All in

A few grand for presents for the immediate family. Around 6k for the holiday over Christmas (although that covers all meals and drinks etc). Probably another 1-2k on other
Incidentals such as Theatre tickets, Christmas work meals and visits to markets, pantos etc. A fairly standard Christmas spend.

duckling84 · 25/11/2018 09:14

£900-1000
5dc plus buy for 10 other family members.

duckling84 · 25/11/2018 09:45

For all those that buy teacher presents - why don't you go on the teacher board and ask if they really want the gifts? I really think it is a pointless expenditure.
And using the argument of they look after my child all day, well then why stop when they hit secondary school? The secondary teachers are still caring for and nurturing your children through some of their toughest years, but teacher gifts are no longer done. Food for thought

Jackshouse · 25/11/2018 10:06

Jackshouse · 25/11/2018 10:07

Sorry that 1.5%!

Desmondo2016 · 25/11/2018 12:43

I know exactly as last year I decided to use one credit card for all things Xmas and it was a scary £1163. In addition to this my husband spent around 350 on spoiling me! I say scary as I didn't realise it was that much but no doubt it will be this year too!

GreenTulips · 25/11/2018 12:49

Where are charity donations and food bank spends?

Towerofjoyless · 25/11/2018 12:50

Around 1.7% of annual household income for us.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 25/11/2018 12:53

There was another thread on this and I worked out our spend at £1000 Shock
That included: kids presents, presents to DH and extended family, Christmas food, we usually throw a Christmas party for friends, trip to the pantomime travel to visit relatives.
It all adds up. If anything I might have underestimated.

Didthatreallyhappen2 · 25/11/2018 12:53

Up to £1,000, but that's been spread over the year (bought lots of stocking fillers on holiday in the Summer), and a few bits from January sales earlier this year.

christmaschristmaschristmas · 25/11/2018 12:59

3.5£ on presents. 3 children, DH, both sets of parents, around 15 members of family and 15 friends. Less than last year when all the kids had apple laptops Shock.

Xmas dinner will cost 150£ at butchers for large turkey, sausage meat, chipolatas and a ham. Then probably 350£ at the supermarket. Won't need to buy too much alcohol as family bring it round.

It's expensive but I enjoy Christmas more than holidays TBH.

christmaschristmaschristmas · 25/11/2018 13:00

About 3% of our household income, if I've worked that out right.

Mumshappy · 25/11/2018 13:05

150 ish on each DC (3 of them) plus their xmas eve boxes (about 20.00 each) family gifts approx 200.00
No food as staying with family
Cards and a few new decs 20.00
Trip to panto
About 700.00
I buy all year round

Twodogsandahooch · 25/11/2018 13:30

Probably about 1.2k

£150 each DD
£60 DP
£400 other family members

Tree £40 might buy a couple of new decs.

Xmas food shop 3-400
Sure there are some extra bits that I haven't accounted for.

Saving for renovation so trying to cut back a bit this year.

mummymayhem18 · 25/11/2018 14:03

GreenTulips I go a little mad with Christmas as I love it and we can financially afford to but I do get carried away. My husband and I both count ourselves lucky so wanted to give a little back so he donated £50 to a cancer charity that his work was fundraising for and I donated to my local Blue Cross Animal Shelter. They have a Amazon Wish List of items they could really use so I spent just over £60 buying some of the items on that list and it will get delivered straight to them. It feels good to do that. I know not everyone can afford to do that but like you say it's good to remember these kind of things.

Jackshouse · 25/11/2018 14:24

Where are charity donations and food bank spends? every time we pop into Sainsbury we add stuff to the food bank box. We also are paying for a couple of Christmas dinners at the local soup kitchen.

BatsAreCool · 25/11/2018 14:30

DH and I have a max spend on each other because if we didn't DH would spend a fortune to make up for 'me being hard to buy for' Hmm.

So £300 (£150 each) on presents. About £100 on presents for a few other people.

Approx £200 more on food and drink. No new decorations.

Overall then Christmas is quite cheap for us.

CaseStudyResearch · 25/11/2018 15:27

We don’t give any extra for charity/food banks at Christmas, just keep up our monthly DD to 2 charities and weekly food bank donations as usual.

We usually do a charity present donation, but haven’t found one in our new town yet.

SoyDora · 25/11/2018 15:36

In Ireland and I think we really do overspend here.

4,000e we have budgeted for
2 younger kids 650 ×2 = 1300
3 adult kids 250 × 3 = 750
Family and friends presents = 700
Food = 300e ( we don't drink so no alcohol and we host dinner for 11)
Each other 300×2 = 600
Tree and decorations = 150
Work xmas party and bits = 200

We both save 40e a week all year round for it

This made me wince! So much!
I have no real idea as I’ve never added it up properly, but just done some quick sums in my head and reckon it’s about £700 all in (presents for our 2 DC’s, my parents, a couple of friends children, my grandmother, dad’s partner and her children plus real Christmas tree, food etc).

SoyDora · 25/11/2018 15:38

Oh and we put stuff in the food bank collection every week, throughout the year. I don’t put extra in at Christmas, just make it more seasonal.

Lovemusic33 · 25/11/2018 16:26

Roughly £600

£400 on dc’s
£100 on close family
£100 on food (no alcohol)

Maybe a little extra for the odd Christmas decoration and a trip out with dc’s.

I thought I spent a lot Hmm
