Rainie130 · 23/11/2018 11:55

Can I ask what is your total Christmas spend?
I'm expecting the total bill toaround 2.5k
5 kids, 2 & their partners, hubby, parents, brother & sisters, nieces and nephews, food decorations, cards and small teacher gifts.
Saved all year.

Im a single parent and works out at nearly 3% of my income after tax etc. Im happy with that figure

SoyDora · 25/11/2018 18:02

Oh and I think it’s about 0.5% of our income.

I see no issue with any long spend as long as you can afford it out of money in your account and you're not going into debt/overdraft to afford it.

everythingisginandroses · 25/11/2018 23:21

£650 so far, spread over several months. DS & DH presents, tree, cards, food, some booze, festive afternoon tea & illuminations events. Still got half a dozen family presents to buy and some fresh food nearer the time, will probably end up being about £850-£900 all in.

This year is a bit over the top it’s daughter birthday the week after to

So about 2.5k on presents for daughter
Winter wonderland -150 including ice skating etc
Decorations 150
We don’t host and daughter doesn’t eat food and I’m not a fan of Xmas dinner so bring my dinner and some contributions to everyone else’s so about 25 pound.
Disney on ice tickets and pink limo - 300
Rest will be seeing lights turn on etc so all free
Then Xmas even lunch about 30.
Xmas decorations

snitzelvoncrumb · 26/11/2018 02:03

I think all up under $300 Aussie dollars. Not hosting, I have three young kids and a niece to buy for.
We just agree not to buy for friends, and don't spend heaps on our kids because we are trying not to focus on material stuff so much. My kids were getting obsessed with "I want" so we have changed the way we do things.

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 26/11/2018 02:47

Green since I lost my husband I give what I would have spent on his present to the hospice that care so well for him.
I don’t include it as part of my Christmas spends as it is a personal gift given in remembrance and not part of my Christmas celebrations.

I always give to the food bank collections so that is not part of Christmas either.

Fantastiqueangel · 26/11/2018 03:58

About 1.3% of take home, after pensions etc as well. Large extended family so it's ok.

Alib84 · 01/12/2018 07:24

About £80 on decorations this year as needed new tree too.
Maybe £100-150 on food/drink that is for all over Xmas including huge family buffet on boxing day.
Our 3 kids between them £800-1000 including Christmas eve boxes.
£260-280 on all other family presents which is for us, 2 sets of parents, 4 siblings/partners, 1 ain't and uncle plus 11 nieces and nephews.

Nearly all done now.

3in4years · 01/12/2018 13:37

Cards and misc gifts: 50
Santa gifts: 200
Family gifts: 300
Food: 100
Tree etc: 100
Events: 100
Hopefully under £1k

CherryPavlova · 01/12/2018 13:39

Depends what counts as Christmas spend? Is of all the food for Christmas week or just Christmas? Are we adding in presents for staff? What about New Year and Twixtmas costs?

Youmadorwhat · 01/12/2018 13:42

I dunno probably about 600 all in! Anything over 1k is ridiculous imo. I mean it’s a few gifts and a roast dinner at the end of the day 🤷‍♀️😂

coolcahuna · 01/12/2018 13:46

Not loads. I'd say around £500.
About £300 - £350 on gifts. Another £150 or so on food, crackers, tree etc.

That said I know people who spend loads more than that and probably spend £2k all in.

ritzbiscuits · 01/12/2018 16:48

Ouch, some of these spend figures are huge!

Just totted ours up and for all presents, extra food/drink and three festive trips it's £750. That's about 1% of our net income.

We have one 5 yo ds and expect this will go up a bit as he gets older, but hope to keep around £1k mark.

franksidebottom · 02/12/2018 00:19

This year it will be about £60 on tree and decorations (bought a new artificial tree but got it half price)
About £450 on presents (3dc)
Day trips/tickets rough spend of about £300 (including the xmas hols with kids off)
Extra food about £100
Nearly 1k all in all, I would like to cut this down

TheBigBangRocks · 02/12/2018 10:05

Where are charity donations and food bank spends

We gift to three charities at Christmas but do so all year round at various points so don't see it as a Christmas expense, just a general one. We don't do foodbank donations so they wouldn't appear either.

using the argument of they look after my child all day, well then why stop when they hit secondary school

We have always done teacher gifts and still send in for secondary to their form tutor and anyone that has gone the extra mile for them. Not everyone stops at the end of Primary.

Everyone's spend will be different, everyone has their own traditions, earning power, savings etc so of course people will do it differently.

Ggirl27 · 02/12/2018 10:50

£1000 - includes DD and DS presents (£230 each) - presents for family - DH and I don't do gifts - and food shop. Might go a little over but I usually keep it to this...
