Hotel Chocolat velvetiser

Has anyone managed to get one of these for less than £89.99?

There's a few 10% off codes floating around that don't seem to work so I'm wondering if discounts don't apply to them?

Wonder what the chances are of hotel chocolat doing a Black Friday deal...? )slim probably!)

Second hand? What is the point of these anyway?

Jackshouse · 21/11/2018 19:53

They seem like an expensive gimmick to me. I’m not really sure how they are different to a milk pan.

Lindor2828 · 21/11/2018 19:56

Thanks, although I didn't ask whether people thought they were a waste of money or not

I'm going to be buying one as a gift so I'm just trying to see whether I can get a better deal or not!

Hotel Chocolat are notorious for not reducing useful things.

Full price Advent calendars around the end of December.. Hmm .

I'd say if they are not reduced by this Friday, they won't be. They are unlikely to sell out either though, so I don't think you'll lose out by waiting a bit.

I'm going to get one for my coffee and tea averse son.

I wonder if there is any sort of discount offered for signing up to their mailing list or something?

Lindor2828 · 21/11/2018 20:23

I've signed up to the mailing list this evening so we shall see! I'll give it till Friday and then order anyway!

I’m watching these in hope the price comes down, too. Can’t really justify it otherwise!

tentative3 · 22/11/2018 14:01

I signed up for their VIP thing recently, and that gives 15% off next purchase. It'll probably exclude the velvetiser but might be worth checking?

CisMyArse · 04/12/2018 16:21

Was just about to buy one when I read that you can only use Hotel Chocolat products with it. My DD doesn't even like their chocolate!

Are there cheaper alternatives?

RebeccaCloud9 · 04/12/2018 16:25

Ha I had a brochure through for these and wondered who on earth would pay that instead of just using the microwave!
(Sorry I know that's not helpful)

tentative3 · 04/12/2018 17:34

@CisMyArse where did you read that? It's just grated chocolate that goes in to it!

Mrsfussypants1 · 04/12/2018 19:24

My mum's came last week, we had it sent direct to her to have now. We got the £99 package with the cups and 20 sachets. I gave up trying to get a code to work and begrudgingly paid delivery. She was so excited when it came and I was inundated with pictures as she excitedly unpacked it. Then nothing. I phoned the next day as It was odd she hasn't phoned and let me know how it was, she loves hot chocolate and dualitt kitchen ware so this was surely a winner. She didn't want to tell me that though it tastes beautiful it was luke warm. First cup was cold so she's found second cup warmer. I've advised her to warm cups up first and I think I'm going to have to phone Hotel chocolat for advise. I have one on pre order for another gift and I'm going to visit her at weekend and see for myself

Oh Fussy please report back! I have been holding off ordering one as I want more (real, not PR) reviews.
I don't think any discounts work on the Velvetiser, all of the ones I've had this month specifically exclude it.

Mrsfussypants1 · 04/12/2018 21:04

I will do. I wanted one too, was/is going to be joint gift to my other half for us to share. I've got till 12th to decide. I had read somewhere I think it was comment from h.c on a review that it isn't meant to be served piping hot and to warm pod cups up so I do need to get to my mum's and see how it is and make sure she's using it properly. Plus if bought her set of salted caramel so she's got plenty to spare and I'm dying to try. She did say it was beautiful but I don't think she likes it, there's 30 day money back, so we will see. After reading reviews and because it's hot chocolate and dualitt I thought I was on to a winner.

Hotel chocolat have 20% off everything today only if you haven't ordered yet.

CisMyArse · 06/12/2018 21:00

Thanks Joe. Doesn't apply to the Velvetiser though. Oh what to do!

BarbaraofSevillle · 07/12/2018 12:26

Oh, that's disappointing fussy although I'm not surprised as Hotel Chocolat's idea of a hot chocolate is nowhere near hot.

I once had one of their hot chocolates in one of their cafes and, although it was very nice and I'd asked for it to be extra hot, it was lukewarm at best so my fantasy of sitting and relaxing while sipping a hot chocolate was ruined as it just wasn't hot enough to drink like that - it pretty much had to be drunk straight away to have it before it was undrinkably cold. It was also tiny and cost nearly £4 Shock

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 07/12/2018 13:55

Pre-heating the cup does help, but it's definitely not as warm as it could be!

Mrsfussypants1 · 08/12/2018 10:25

Morning. Well I'm at mums checking out her velvitizer. I've had my first cup, made sure she's done everything correctly. I love it, but I don't drink hot drinks so it is right temperature for me, but you do have to drink it straight away. My mum likes drinks hotter, so it's not so much a win for her. Just looking at milk frothers on John Lewis website as a better alternative for her. I think we are going to send hers back, bless her she didn't want to show disappointment in her gift. I would take it and give her money but it's not my colour choice. But... I love it and have now pre ordered copper. So our verdict is 50/50. I think it is expensive and for my mum a milk frother will be more efficient and they are cheaper. But I like the gift package and design, and my other half and I like drinks that aren't piping hot. Just wish I could get a promo code to work!

zucchinieggplant · 08/12/2018 13:18

Thanks for the update! I have a milk frother thingy that I bought with my nespresso machine which also doesn't get as hot as I would like - I have to drink my coffee straight away so I'm wondering if it'll be a similar temperature to that.
I think I am going to get one still, and holding out for a last minute discount unlikely.

We got one and just thought I'd update to say we love it and the hot chocolate comes out at a great temp.

zucchinieggplant · 28/12/2018 21:00

I got one too (after a mild panic that I'd left it too late and they'd sold out!) and we're going to try it tonight!

WontonSoupForTheSoul · 30/12/2018 16:12

I love mine too and haven’t had any temp issues. In fact, I don’t think I could tolerate it any hotter, and I like my drinks hot.

I’ve been adding a shot of Bailey’s to the machine before switching it on too. And a dollop of Bailey’s whipped cream after I’ve poured too Xmas Blush

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 30/12/2018 16:17

I've had one since they first came out. You can use other brands of hot chocolate. You can add caramel or Nutella to it as well. However you can also get one from Aldi or Lidl for £15-18.

BadgerWithSprouts · 30/12/2018 16:35

I was looking for a cheaper alternative recently and found one with the attached review so I suspect they all have the same issue
