Food for entertaining (not Christmas Day/Dinner)

Just looking for inspiration really about nice food to offer to groups when entertaining over the holidays. We've got family over on Xmas Eve lunchtime, and then a group of 15 adults and 10 babies/toddlers during the middle weekend of Christmas.

There'll be plenty of children around, and with a baby and toddler myself I don't want to do anything too fiddly to make, or eat, but still want something that everyone can enjoy. Something in a slow cooker maybe?

What are your food plans if you are hosting at your house?

Lunch on Christmas Eve:
Jacket potatoes and ham with this winter slaw realfood.tesco.com/recipes/winter-slaw.html The mustard dressing in this slaw complements the ham really well. Warm mince pies and custard for pudding!

Lunch over the mid Christmas weekend:
Pulled pork rolls with apple sauce and sage and onion stuffing. I got the idea after trying these delicious sandwiches from Waitrose. www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/good-to-go-pulled-pork-apple-stuffing-sandwich/710013-671724-671725

Dinner:
Slow cooker beef stew with mash www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/slow-cooker-beef-stew Can be frozen
Or mushroom and red wine ragu with mash for the veggies www.deliciousmagazine.co.uk/recipes/quick-mushroom-and-red-wine-ragu/

Salmon with sultana and almond couscous salad www.taste.com.au/recipes/sultana-almond-couscous-salad/48fb7816-b160-48bd-ba8a-8d88c78174ea

If it's a stand up party I often do pulled pork, as it can just sit in the slow cooker. Yum.

Call me old fashioned but I always thought you had special food at Christmas. You know foods you only have on a special occasion. Jacket potato with ham wouldn’t scream at me.

For family visiting on Xmas eve I'm doing a party buffet- baked camembert with crusty bread, chicken wings with my special bbq sauce, pigs in blanket, Mac cheese, rice, salad, coleslaw and a bunch of different frozen party foods that I can bang in the oven.

What would scream at you @greendale17? I'm sure the op would like more ideas

I agree with @JourneyToThePlacentaOfTheEarth - love a Christmas buffet! I know ASDA have some frozen Christmas stuff shaped party food that would no doubt go down well with the kids! Grin

Thanks everyone. Some great ideas. RiceKrispie Pulled pork sounds like a great idea for the weekend get together. Nice and straight forward, and a treat without being too Christmassy, as by then we might all be a bit turkeyed out.

Journey yes I love a buffet and actually I might incorporate a ham into it as that is one of my M-il's fave foods. My mum has a great roast ham recipe (mustard, honey, cloves, orange etc) which I have never tried myself because it's just sooo good I'm not sure I'd do it justice. Perhaps that with some crusty rolls and some other buffet items for the kids.

We'll be at family for Christmas Day so don't want any unusable leftovers from Xmas Eve. Will make space in the freezer beforehand and can then freeze what's left for pies or pasta dishes. I hate a stingy buffet, so there will be leftovers - I just need to make sure I can use them after Christmas.
