Classic Children's Book?

I want to buy my nephew age 5, a classic hardback storybook for Christmas.

I've done across a nice Peter Pan illustrated book, does anyone have any other ideas (not that easy to search on Amazon)?

Thanks!

There are lots of lovely illustrated Winnie the Pooh books in Waterstone's, which might suit.
Otherwise, Paddington, Railway Children or the Borrowers.

I got a lovely edition of the complete Narnia Chronicles by C S Lewis when DD was small. But it’s a bit big for bedtime reading herself.

Maybe something like a Grimm’s fairytales ?

We also have a Beatrix Potter collection which has been well used but might be a bit young for a 5 year old.

Toad of Toad Hall (Wind I the Willows?) would be good for boys, or something like Swallows and Amazon’s?

If you have a good bookshop anywhere near you, they would be delighted to help!!

The CS Lewis I just mean might be better as the seperate books in hard or paper back editions, not a single collection in 1 book.

Folio Society editions are beautiful but ££!

The Helen Oxenbury versions of the Alice books are nice, and not as scary and weird as the old Tenniel illustrations.

The Swallows & Amazons hardback editions with the maps on the endpapers are lovely and too good for kids.

We also have the cloth-bound edition of The Fox and the Star which was everywhere a couple of years ago. It might not be a ‘classic’, but it’s such a lovely thing.

Pressed post too soon. They've also got the little mermaid and other fairy tales and beauty and the beast. They have really lovely artwork and 'interactive artwok' which are maps and things that pull out. They're really nice and not a bad price.

There's a nice hardback of Paddington out now, to celebrate his 60th anniversary. Also one of Mary Poppins.

How about The Night Before Christmas by Clement Clarke Moore?
This is a favourite in our house.
