I’m gong to build a (glittery, sticky, all sparky LOL) house...anyone else?!

My daughters are LOL OBSESSED!!!

I tried to fight them down in the beginning at spending our hard earned cash on these little balls of shite but they have worn me down with their happy squeals, excited little faces and dedication to playing with them everyday....

I am absolutely not buying the house, (although FYI the pop up store and storage box make my OCD need for order all kinds of happy and Santa is bringing a 2nd one as they really are great!)

However if one was (oh god can’t believe I’m saying this!!! Confused) to buy all the glitter and sticky things and a cardboard house for girls to make one theirselves where would one start?!

This would absolutely be an extra present, all be it quite a large one but did think I would build the house and put all the new LOL dolls which I already have for them (still wrapped up of course) inside the house with lots of pink, sticky, sparky, glittery things to decorate it and wrap the whole thing up in Lol paper, if there is such a thing....who am I kidding?! Grin

But where do I start, I need cheap ideas on how to bulk it out, thinking stickers, glitter pens, Jewel type decorations but would that be enough and where could I buy these things cheaply, would have to be online too as don’t drive, would it look “LOL” enough when they open it or can anyone think of any other ways to the get the wow factor?

Is anyone else partaking on this path of LOL madness, or is it only me that’s woken up with another thing to think about and cause Glitter havoc in my house on Christmas morning?

Get ye to Pinterest!!!

We are new to LOL dolls, dd just has one little sister (that is played with every day!) And she's asked for more for christmas so I've got her one of each type then I got the colour your own dolls house from hobby craft (£8.50 - dds have one each!)

Poundland for stick on gems and embellishments. The works also have loads. The entertainer for lol stickers. I got glitter pens from smiggle on sale. I may also get some glitter paint. Will look out for pretty wallpaper and get samples - free in hardware shops! Then glue, scissors.

The furniture i got second hand I'm thinking of wrapping in a moving in van style box (like the LOL dolls house) I got the panda storage boxes from the entertainer - one is like a van shape so should work well. For me had to be neutral as dd1 is a tomboy and wouldn't want lol crazy stuff! Her house is going all superhero and Harry potter themed! But you could make it more glittery/lol with stickers.

Smyths sell LOL gift wrap.

Jemimafuckinpuddleduck · 15/11/2018 07:17

@nocutsnobuttsnococonuts

This is great!!!

They already have a lot bought for them so definitely need to keep this low budget but think a nicer way to present their new dolls rather than them just getting lost in their sack plus making it a creative project rather than just more plastic!!

Will go and have a look in all the online crafty shops!

See what hobbycraft has a starter?

Alanamackree · 15/11/2018 08:03

I think that the key to this will be getting the colour scheme right. Google lol parties for some ideas too.
Something like hot pink, baby pink and mint green might work well. You might be able to find patterns (diagonal stripes/polka dots) that you can print yourself to use as wall paper.
If you have to mix paint to get the right shade do it systematically noting down how many parts of each colour are used. Don’t wing it because wet and dry paint are different and it is almost impossible to get an exact match.

Lol gift wrap in b and m for 1.50, also lots of cheap and reasonable siZed lolstickers

Huffabook · 15/11/2018 08:39

Please can you post a picture of the pop up store thing. Is it really, truly great?

Jemimafuckinpuddleduck · 15/11/2018 08:54

Have have no internet atm @Huffabook so cant upload a pic but honestly think its one of the better play sets and so much cheaper than most of them, I hate plastic with a passion and we are about to buy a second one, functional and hours of playing fun!!

Home bargains have rolls of glittery sticky back plastic for about 99p would make a great floor , they also have glittery gift bags which could be cut up for whatever. For stuff like rugs, have a look through old outgrown clothes.

MissesBloom · 15/11/2018 09:12

Watching with interest as dd is LOL crazy, but my budget cant extend to the house.

Am going to buy a hot pink glittery storage case myself and decorate with lol stickers for her to store the dolls in and also one for their accessories. I've seen them all over Facebook selling sites and they look relatively easy to master. Will also be handy because were away for xmas and dd will undoubtedly want to take her lols with her.

Good luck, OP. It’s always more time consuming and costly than it looks. I’ve done small houses before when I didn’t want to pay £40 for plastic pony castle and few hours in, I would’ve paid a £100 if someone could have pulled one out and put me out of my crafting misery. There’s a YouTube video of a woman who makes a foldable doll house out of plastic crates glued together that might inspire you. Rex London use to have these heart shaped tins in their sales for a pound... maybe you can find it on eBay, as it looks like the “pool”

I’m gong to build a (glittery, sticky, all sparky LOL) house...anyone else?!
Angelkd · 15/11/2018 09:23

My daughter loves LOL dolls ,its a great idea making your own one as the real house looks awful not worth £170, to me its worth £50.
Another vote for hobbycraft they have so much craft things, our store is amazing to visit but i have done on line too x

Valasca · 15/11/2018 09:27

There’s also an FB group all about LOL doll house upgrades... it might be easier to find a beat up wooden doll house and some Asda wooden doll furniture and bling it up, rather than trying to make a cardboard house.

Huffabook · 15/11/2018 09:31

I found a house the same as this on eBay and local to us - it looks a bit huge though, but think upgrading / LOLing an existing house would be better.

If anyone has the pop up store they can show / explain to me - please?!

Jemimafuckinpuddleduck · 15/11/2018 09:40

In all honesty I wasn’t going to decorate it myself, more of a craft project for the girls to do and play with and mysteriously disappear never to be see again once the school hols end

So was thinking more about filling it with art/crafty tools to do theirselves ie glitter pens, stick on jewels, stickers and then the balls and under wraps inside too!!

I’ve tried to take some pics of the pop up store... it looks a bit better in real life, but nothing compared to the house!

You are much more organised, jemima- mine is very disorganised! All the lols live in the box at the back- accessories little sisters and pets on the right 😂

Huffabook · 15/11/2018 10:58

Fab - thank you both - the photos really help. Any more gratefully received as google isn't helping much! I hadn't considered getting one of these, but might get one now.

The girlwholived - is all that is in the picture from one set?

Huffabook · 15/11/2018 11:26

Now I've watching an unboxing of the pop up shop on YouTube (Blush), I'm now sold 😆

TheGirlWhoLived · 15/11/2018 12:46

Yeah it all goes inside each other- the last pic is it all slotted back together!
