Looking for Xmas ideas. What are you buying your boys. Can anyone recommend any popular 2 wheeled scooters? Thanks

Decathlon do good scooters

Owletterocks · 12/11/2018 21:15

Ds has got the micro sprite scooter, seems well made and folds up pretty small. He is also getting robot wars arena and a pooparoo 🙄

jakesmommy · 12/11/2018 21:21

I've bought my 8 year old DS the Razor commuter scooter, it has thicker wheels, also getting him a black helmet and knee/elbow pads which he has asked for, other things I have for him include:
Roboraptor X
Roblox sets
Minecraft Lego
Crate Creature
Tronex electronic kits
Pop Vinyl figures
Annual
Sweets

Well I have a 7yr old so right in between Smile. Actually he is getting a new scooter. I think but couldn't swear (because DH ordered it and it's now in the attic) it's called madd gear? It was @ €60.

Other gifts/suggestions:

Lego city, k'nex (he's got the big tub, is getting k'nex raptor), ZOOBS. He likes construction toys. This year my db has ordered this for him: www.brightminds.co.uk/products/12-in-1-hydraulic-construction-kit?variant=13700438884394 It's age 8 but no doubt his uncle wants to play with it will help.

Previously he's had Nintendo DS, the imaginext DC Superheroes range, a marble run, hexbugs, science kits, magic set, hot wheels, always a board game and books.

Micro sprite is a good scooter.

I had Robot Wars arena on list for 8yo DS. However, instead he is getting:

PS4 controller of his own & a PS4 game
Kit for his 2 sports (fancy bits, not every day stuff)
Massive bean bag
A ball that counts how many times you have bounced it.

If your kids like sport a rebounder net (it bounces the ball back at you) is a great gift.

If they like games, that’s around the age my ds started to adore Labyrinth and Rush Hour.

They both also got proper compact cameras (one at 5, one at 7) - the younger ds who got it at 7 got a small simple rugged waterproof Nikon - think it was an s33 but that has now been superseded. It had a simple kids mode (that dh, who is not a natural photographer Grin) found useful and easy, ds2 likes the effects and it’s been handy having a waterproof camera if we go to the beach or out somewhere in the rain. I was recommended it by several people on the MN Xmas threads several years ago!

Ds1 had an ordinary canon compact even though he was younger as he has always loved taking pictures and was used to using all my cameras so knew how to be careful with his. Ds2 has always been cackhanded so we went for the rugged one.

If they like cycling or being outdoors you could also consider a go-pro type camera too. But don’t bother with the kiddy cameras, go for a real one!

The Kinder plush toys with a packet of sweets always goes down really well here, now a requested feature at the top of ds2’s stocking.

Vicious2018 · 12/11/2018 21:38

We got ds8 several smallish packs of Star Wars Lego, gravitrax, "Build your own jet engine" -kit and books.

DS(about to turn 6) has a Microsprite. It is great, but probably not the best is you live somewhere with rough paths etc. We live in a small village with tree roots altering lots of the paths etc, a few rough surface roads etc, and the wheels are just too small. It is brilliant when we take it elsewhere!

For Christmas and his birthday he is getting Lego, K’nex, Hexbugs and things for his hobby.

unexpectedtwist · 12/11/2018 23:25

My 6yo is getting a new bike as suddenly he's too if for the old one, Lego, a coding mouse, Yeti in my Spaghetti, science kit, build your own robot and some cheapo bard game.

This is from me and DH, aunt and nanny.

ChristmasSeacow · 12/11/2018 23:41

Ooh @4point2fleet what is the counting bouncy ball thing called please and where did you get it?

My 6-yr old has ASD and doesn’t really understand most toys so I’m never much use at suggesting things to others, very sorry.

rosablue · 12/11/2018 23:47

Glad to help!

If you do find a camera that you like, check it out on this website - www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/ - they tell you the cheapest place for each model.

I used it successfully in John Lewis to show that the camera I wanted (in fact the one for ds2) was £20 cheaper in Boots and they gave it to me at that price (which was great as it meant I didn't need to schelp miles up the shopping centre and then discover that they had stopped selling cameras locally as I discovered a few days later when in there!) - it was one of the JL assistants that told me about the site.

The other thing to remember about buying cameras for dc is that they don't need the latest all singing and dancing affair - you can get some real bargains on last year's models if you know the sort of thing you want for them - at their age they're unlikely to make much use of the slight upgrade or tweak to the features that you're paying the extra £££ for in the run up to xmas!
