First year I'm doing stockings. What do you put in?

I've 3 kids. Ds 14 dd1 12 dd2 9. I've never bothered and up til this year neither were they. Both dd's asked for a stocking so I bought 3 off Amazon. I really don't know what to put in. Do you wrap stuff? Other than a chocolate orange each and a small gift (juggling balls, Rubik's cube and magic 8 ball) I'm stuck. Also my mum is staying and was thinking of doing one for her as a surprise. Normally I'd make them up a present of pj's, book/annual etc.

Gifts are wrapped. Fruit and coins not wrapped here but they can be, particularly if they're being filmed!Grin

GreenTulips · 11/11/2018 23:26

Yes they are wrapped

In different paper to main gifts

Each child gets a different colour for easy of sorting/storing

No faffing with labels

RaininSummer · 11/11/2018 23:34

Thanks Bingle. We have ended it for mine now so that we don't confuse the little ones about FC coming but I still have fun buying and making gifts but now they are from me not the fat man. In red.

OP have a look on Amazon. I've just ordered a few bits and this is my favourite.
Kanggest Novelty Pen Pencil Case New Creative Simulation Of Milk Cartoon Pencil Case Cute PU Pen Bag Stationery Pouch for Student Office School Supplies(Pink) www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07518XMSG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_flm6BbNZR1C22?tag=mumsnetforum-21
I got each colour available plus an extra pink one for myself. The reviews are good and they are adorable. Cheap too. Less than £3.

Well through no fault of my own I've ordered a few of those cases. They'll make fab gifts for my nieces too. May have also ordered some syringe shaped highlighter pens and some key shaped pens for 13p!

I wrap the gifts in tissue paper. I aim for 10 gifts, mostly a pound or under, nothing over a fiver. Tiger/poundshop is your friend. 10 gifts, plus satsuma, packet of gold coins, 1 tube of sweets and a few lollies. Only the gifts are wrapped

2dc = 4 stockings. 2 empty at the end of the bed. 2 identical ones filled. Then just swap them: much easier for magically filled stockings to appear without them waking 😉

Chrisinthemorning · 12/11/2018 07:50

@Raininsummer
My mum does DS one and a joint one for me and DH- to be opened on Boxing Day. They are from her not Santa. Stops Boxing Day being anticlimactic.

That's my top tip for new parents Smile. 2 stockings per child, one filled & swapped with the empty one. Stress free.

I love doing a stocking! Always had one as a child, and LOVED the feeling of waking up and knowing HE'D BEEN due to the weight of the stocking at the end of the bed!

I also fully agree with the empty stocking idea above, always do this too, saves such a faff!

Chocolate orange in the toe is a must, mini can of coke, I found some Simpson's tic tacs in the pound shop, fortnite gift card, I tend to shy away from plastic tat, more so now DS is older (10) so tends to be edibles or things to use, like bath bombs etc.

I'd love to do a girls stocking! Make up, bath stuff, hair ties, pens and stationary, inexpensive jewellery etc.

GummyGoddess · 12/11/2018 10:32

I was going to hang on fireplace before bed and move full ones onto the bed. Not until dc1 is 3 though.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 12/11/2018 11:37

I don't wrap.

Chocolate santa
Candy cane
Pooping animal keyring or similar silly novelty toy
Card game
Gadget toy (voice changer, racing unicorns or similar)
Magazine or sticker book

makingmiracles · 12/11/2018 11:50

Always wrap stocking presents, always in the same wrapping and never wrap any other presents with the same wrap. This year got some lovely brown paper with love from Santa on it so have used that.

Everyone gets
Choc coins, loose in bottom
Piece fruit
Novelty Sweet(has been things like camel balls chewing gum in the past, this year it’s sour toilets with lolly plungers and sour dip in the toilet bowls lol)
Choc of some description depending on age, eg teens will get big toberlones, younger ones a choc Santa
Novelty key ring
Hot choc satchet
Mini cans of pop(we don’t buy it any other time)

Other things I’ve put in depending on age are

Character Bubble bath/lynx
Grow flannel
DVd
Xmas scratch card
TLescopic metal back scratcher
Pop vinyl (if your stocking is big enough)
Lol ball
NOvelty lip gloss eg Coca Cola
Mini lego set or minifig blind bag
Mind bender mini puzzles
Mini notepad/pencil

MaryDollNesbitt · 12/11/2018 12:11

11yo DD so far:

Solar powered flower wobbler
Dig a diamond kit
Small tub of rainbow slime
Festive penguin stressball
Write your own message keychain lightbox
Personalised holographic bookmark
‘Mood swing in operation’ caution board
Battery operated toothbrush
Nivea lip balm
Sparkly nail varnish
Christmas Oreo cookie tin
Box of quick milk magic sippers

Waiting on delivery:

Purple BTS pen
BTS ‘Army’ necklace

Still to sort:

Pack of pants
A new book (so she doesn’t come in and wake me up too early!)
Chocolate coins
Tube of smarties
Terry’s chocolate orange
Shiny £1 coin for the bottom!

It looks like loads written down like that - but most of the bits are teeny tiny! I have it all out in front of me now as I’m wrapping presents having pulled out ‘the stash’, and everything’s so SMALL! DD has one of those annoying velour Disney sacks that seems to double up as Mary Poppins’ bloody carpet bag - it never fills up! Ugh!

CaseStudyResearch · 12/11/2018 12:27

I do one for DH when we go to my family, because my mum does one for me.

So far, I’ve got:

2x miniature bottle of his fave alcohol
Multi USB plug charger
iPhone cable
Chocolates
Biltong/ nuts
Pizza cutter - he loves making homemade pizzas
Lipsalve
Satsuma

Debating a new toothbrush too!

CheddarIsNotTheOnlyCheese · 12/11/2018 20:52

These are all great ideas. I like the idea of using tissue paper. Scrunch and go.
