Older teenager off to do voluntary work in Africa for a spell next year. They are not well travelled, but project is well organised. What can I give them for Christmas that would be useful, costs around a tenner and will be accompanied by a donation to the charity they are working for?

packing cubes are always useful as they help keep everything neat, organised and compressed in your suitcase. the set linked costs £12 x

It might cost more than £10 but an insulated water bottle is really useful in hot countries, to keep your drink cool.
A diary
Stamps for sending postcards back to the uk
Sunglasses case

Packing cubes are brilliant.
A headtorch, in case electricity is iffy.
Multitool/penknife.
Univeral plug, not very exciting though!
Travel towel if packing space is an issue.
Money belt.

Flip flops, or equivalent, for walking in water.

LockedOutOfMN · 11/11/2018 18:45

A "taco" for cables
A universal charger/plug (sorry if this has been mentioned already)
Travel pillow that folds flat
Multifibre towels

I bought my son a travel journal and a power pack (so he can recharge his phone when out and about).

dancingqueen345 · 11/11/2018 18:51

Portable charger
Headtorch
Waterproof phone case
Journal

A lot of Africa uses the UK plug so I'd say no to the adaptor.

Pieceofpurplesky · 11/11/2018 21:22

Multi fibre towel
Torch and batteries (or a wind up one)
Chilly bottle or similar
Journal
Sleeping bag liner

Solar powered charger?

DameFanny · 11/11/2018 21:28

Not a tenner but these are brilliant - www.thesolarlightcompany.co.uk/wakawaka-power-plus/ solar charged power packs and torches

Add a box of waxed dental floss too. I did lots of bacpacking and dental floss.is brilliant - make shift washing line and belt, make shift way to secure bedroom door of a late night stop over. Tying together a broken day pack.

Maybe a little first aid kit
Definitely the flip flops and travel towel.
