Inspiration needed for 6 and 4 year olds

This time last year I was smug!!! Both kids sorted, loads of extended family sorted.

This year I have no idea. DS (6) was Lego crazy until about 6 weeks ago, apparently he’s gone off it...wtf?!?! I was going to get him a massive box of Lego creative or the mission to Mars box. But no, he’s gone off it 😭 he’s no ideas of what he wants except one of those sequin colour change T-shirts 😂 He’s not typically boyish in that he’s not into football, superheroes, nerf guns etc... he’s quite creative though. I’m gutted about the Lego, maybe he’ll come back to it.

DD (4) just doesn’t need anything. She has recently had a dolls house and new bike for her birthday. She’s got loads of jigsaws, babies, kitchen, small figures, ponies etc.

Both kids like crafts and DD has recently become obsessed with letters/numbers/writing but they have craft/writing/colouring stuff already. Any ideas? What are your 6 and 4 year olds getting?

What about a craft subscription? Toucan box or something? My 4 year old is getting Playmobil, vet kit, and some wild animal toys, the 7 year old is getting a spy kit, dolls accessories, a watch and soap making kit.

Mine are now late teens - but DS absolutely loved Kapla when he was younger. It solved the Christmas Problem for several years... He carried on doing things with it until he went to boarding school at 13, and still won't let me sell it on eBay...

Not many ideas for a 4 yo girl (you have the same age gap as mine). Hard to remember what DD liked at that age. Probably stuffed toys, but that's not very helpful!

Blondie1993 · 10/11/2018 22:56

Does he like Playmobil? DS loves it, he is getting the Egyptian pyramid for his birthday and some of the wildlife sets for Christmas. Was also thinking of Bop it and UNO, would he like some board games? There’s some cool National Geographic stuff on Amazon - I am going to get the build your own volcanoe set. Plus some make your own clay dinosaur things. I had a look on Wicked Uncle after someone posted a link and some of the suggestions on there look quite good

Not sure about 4 year old girls though - blow pens are quite good fun!

Some ideas

Magnet building blocks (Magnatiles I think is the brand name)
Paint Sticks by Little Brian
Aquabeads or Hama beads
Games they could play together - eg pop up pirate, Dobble, Marble run
Playdoh sets
scooter/bike accessories
DVDs/kids music CDs
Clothes (more fun things like onesie or slippers)
Remote control toy/Hexbug type things
Vtech camera (pricey mind you, and causes arguments between my two...)
Science kit

Having suggested these things... I have no idea what to get my 6 and 3.5yo ... so following for ideas.

Meccano or magnatiles are fun if like building but bored of Lego.

Equimum · 11/11/2018 09:49

DS is six this Christmas, and he wants hexbugs, RC car & Bugs in the Kitchen game.

Other hits at the moment include:
Magformers with wheels (loved for 2+ years)
Meccano Jnr
k’nex with a motor
Hama beads
Modelling clay
CD player & audio books
Dinosaur excavation set
Space projector
Globe that shows constellations when the light is on

Mine loves Aquarellum paint sets. Expensive but lovely stocking treat.

Your 6yo sounds similar to my 7yo in that he's not really into typical boy things either. And he also went off Lego 2 weeks after getting loads for his birthday! He has tons of playmobil which he plays with on and off (fire engine, space shuttle/rocket, police station) but we're also in a similar place in that they dobt need anything and don't particularly want anything either...

So we're cutting it down to one present each this year and it'll probably be a camera each. I have a 4yo dd too.

Misty9 · 11/11/2018 10:22

Sorry, had to see to said 4yo!

Toys that have been popular with 4yo:
Playmobil vet clinic and zoo
Wooden railway
Duplo
Medical set
Wooden tool set
Marble run (current favourite)

For the 7yo (he's a young 7)
All the above
Snap circuits
Lego ninjago
Captain underpants books (current obsession!)

Really though they've got too much stuff and don't need any more...

Misty9 · 11/11/2018 10:24

If she likes letters then junior scrabble is great as are most orchard toys games. Pop to the shops is current favourite with 7yo and is helping his poor maths skills. Pizza pizza has been the enduring favourite though Smile

slappinthebass · 11/11/2018 11:32

Playmobil for both. I wanted my dd to get into Playmobil as her solder sister loved it and it made birthdays and Christmas easy for years, is it's not tat, faddy or sexist. Dd1 asked for a toy farm for Christmas when she was 6, so I got her lots of farm related Playmobil sets and it went from there. Dd2, I put on the Ricardo Family videos on YouTube for her to watch (stop motion animation of Playmobil) and she was hooked from then on.
