This would be for me!

I fill a homemade Advent Calendar with little things for DD (23)

DH isn't interested.

I would like one for myself that is a really nice scene and just has pictures. I like the ones here German Advent calendars Does anyone have any other recommendations?

£11.20 shipping to the UK. Ouch.

Staringcoat · 08/11/2018 14:45

5foot5 · 08/11/2018 14:47

Oh cripes! I hadn't noticed the shipping charge on the German ones. Ouch indeed!

I had a lovely German one from John Lewis last year. We all take it in turns to open the doors Smile

StarShapedWindow · 08/11/2018 14:58

This Advent Calendar shop has some nice ones

Amazon have lots of traditional advent calendars, including some of those that you have linked to.

RiverTam · 08/11/2018 15:01

if you are in London the Medici Gallery shop by South Kensignton station has a roomful of German advent calendars.

They also sell them (I think) at the church on Sloane Square - Holy TRinity? Opposite Peter Jones, beautiful church, always sell loads of charity cards.

5foot5 · 08/11/2018 15:21

More good recommendations - thank you. I am not in London though so I will probably have to do this online.

oh, that's a shame - I think you'd love these two places, they're part of my Christmas rituals!

bananasandwicheseveryday · 08/11/2018 16:09

I had one similar to this last year. I have prime, so didn't pay any postage, but I can't imagine it would be a great deal if you have to pay it. Very good quality and will definitely buy same brand again.

bananasandwicheseveryday · 08/11/2018 16:11

Also, if you are anywhere near York, there is an amazing Christmas Shop there which has an entire room full of advent calendars. I bought several there in the summer.

TheVeryThing · 08/11/2018 16:25

The sellmer ones are available on Amazon. I had this one last year and everyone loved it.
It actually looks much nicer than in the photograph.
We also had a felt one to put chocolate in and it was so much nicer than the usual kids ones.

NoWordForFluffy · 08/11/2018 17:36

I got one in Berlin at the Christmas shop. There's one in York if you're anywhere near?

LittleNoSleep · 08/11/2018 20:26

I got this one this year

Tiggles · 08/11/2018 22:08

One of our local Anglican churches advertises a charity Christmas card sale and they have traditional advent calendars.
Otherwise amazon.

SassitudeandSparkle · 08/11/2018 22:11

Garden Centres often have the picture ones if you have one nearby, I've had a couple from them (Dobbies/Wyevale). Or a Church or Christian bookshop. Have you tried Flamingo Paperie (its the new name for what was Phoenix Cards) as they usually have that type of calendar too.

thesockgap · 08/11/2018 22:47

John Lewis have some beautiful Victorian style ones, about £12-14 each so quite dear but I reckon you could re-use them for several years! One was in the shape of a wreath, one a garland, one a toy chest etc. Absolutely gorgeous ❤️❤️

AlliKaneErikson · 09/11/2018 03:26

Agree with PP that Flamingo Paperie have some lovely ones (although I do sell them, so I’m a bit biased!).

bushtailadventures · 09/11/2018 03:34

I got a massive one from here: www.traditionaladventcalendars.co.uk/advent-calendars/nativity-religious-advent-calendars.html

They have a few styles, including German ones.

MadisonAvenue · 09/11/2018 09:31

WH Smiths have them.

SassitudeandSparkle · 09/11/2018 09:45

Oooh, that website has some fabulous ones bushtail!

SleepySofa · 09/11/2018 18:44

We got this one:

www.amazon.co.uk/Woodland-Holiday-Calendar-Countdown-Christmas/dp/B003F30R3E?tag=mumsnetforum-21

And this one:

www.amazon.co.uk/Downtown-Christmas-Advent-Calendar-Countdown/dp/B003F2TA38?tag=mumsnetforum-21

Haven’t decided whether to have one each or to save one for next year.

SleepySofa · 09/11/2018 18:46

If you’re in the Cotswolds, Burford Garden Centre has lots of choice too (and is a treasure trove of gifts and gorgeous Christmas decs as well). Well worth the trip if you’re not too far away.

Pop into your nearest Catholic Church around the time of Sunday Mass. most churches have a little shop at the back of the church open before and after Mass.

They always have lots of traditional style advent calendars with pictures inside, and only ever cost a couple of pounds!
