Which Little Mix album should I buy for a 7yo just getting into pop?

Dd1 is 7yo, loves dancing and singing. She has started to like some pop music from a couple of discos she's been to (until now it's been Disney, the greatest showman and abba). She got a CD player last year, and would like more cds to play on it.

She's mentioned wanting some "proper" music, and particularly mentioned Little Mix. I'm not keen on anything with swear words or a sexist outlook, but they seem ok? Is there a particular album that has the most popular songs on?

I'm also open to advice about any other cds it would be worth me looking at.

Personally I would go for Get Weird as that has quite a few of their tamer hits on there.

It’s all down to personal opinion though, you may be better off getting one of those pop music albums aimed at younger kids.

I'd get something aged at children tbh, and proper music so she can experience the difference between groups and bands in the charts and real music.

Im sure i saw a cd that kids are singing the pop songs x

The newest one - if she's asked for a Little Mix album then she's going to want the one with all the songs that she's hearing on the radio that she recognises. You could also get her a 'Now that's what I call Music' type album she's not going to want to be fobbed off by imitators!

Thank you for the replies.

For the people recommending cds aimed at kids, can you recommend me one?

Is Little Mix likely to be inappropriate?

Some of the lyrics are definitely not what I like my 7 year old to be singing! Very sexually overt at times. I tend to screen them and have the tamer ones on for her.

Stompythedinosaur · 06/11/2018 21:17

Thank you. I shall have to seek them out to listen to to see what I think.

I'd love some recommendations about what I might be able to get as a more appropriate alternative, if anyone has any?

Have you had a look at Kidz Bop it’s a kid pop band singing all the latest songs but with any explicit words changed - the music sounds the same to the original track. My 6 year old DD loves Little Mix but the albums do have quite inappropriate songs on them, I don’t let her have the CD’s in her room so I can skip the more dodgy ones!

BoooForYou · 06/11/2018 21:44

The newer albums have been a bit more lively, lyric wise but then they are older now.
DD had their first album, DNA and it was far tamer, far more you go girl and friendship.
Kidz Bop is your best bet though for the up to date ones. It's got all the latest stuff like Dua Lipa and Taylor Swift but without the naughty lyrics.
(Which works until you do a party and they sing the naughty lyrics over the cleaned up ones Hmm ).
Oh and if you buy anything like a Now album and it has Cake by The Ocean on it, dont make the same error as the guy who did our last school disco. The real version of that is very very sweary. I've never seen someone turn a song off so quick.

Believeitornot · 06/11/2018 21:47

Er one of the opening lines to little mix is “I hope she’s getting better sex”

So I stopped playing them!

CrookedMe · 06/11/2018 21:55

My DD was very into LM when she was 7, and she had no idea what the actual lyrics were! I'd get her the latest one, she'll want what she hears people talking about at school and on the radio.

I've previously bought my DD1 a Now compilation cd and a pop party CD and she loved these. Most of the songs were awful and if there's the odd one which in reality is inappropriate, she has no idea - it's just a bit cringey when she sings them! I always buy her a cd at the same time of some old classic but she doesn't actually play these very often, it's just to make me feel better. She probably needs some new child friendly pop sensation so am keen for ideas!
