What 5 things can you not have Christmas without?

For me, I'd be spending the afternoon:

  • decorating the tree
  • wrapping kids presents
  • chilling champagne for Buck's Fizz breakfast
  • buying crackers and getting some games out
  • getting the roast dinner trimmings sorted such as pigs in blankets and making proper gravy.

Not sure I could do all that in an afternoon actually!

What is essential for your Christmas?

By the afternoon before xmas i pretty much sorted, but my 5 things would be

  1. prep the dinner and set table (if having at home if at in laws id be prepping a dessert)
  2. delivery of presents tofamily if not had a chance to yet, but i usually have done.
  3. buying and wrapping my dogs presents (toys bones chews etc) (DH and DSS are done as soon as they are bought because they peek!....arseholes!)
  4. Tend to my grandfathers grave ensuring its clean tidy and has plenty of flowers (usually artificial at this time of year) i also go to where i scattered some of my dogs ashes lay some flowers and have a little chat (yes i am nuts)
  5. Attend a Christmas carol service,(not even religious but i love them) this year DSS is with his mum (we take turns for xmas eve) so i will be having a soak in the bath and snuggling up with DH and dogs on the couch thinking well nothing else i can do now so if ive forgotten tough shit! and will grab an early night around 10:30 looking forward to a lay in the next day

  • Decorate the house
  • Get all the stuff for Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, couple of frozen puds!
  • Wrap the presents
  • Buy all the nibbly snack shit and champers to scoff
  • Get everyone to have a nice bath, fresh pyjamas and a fresh bed to get into!

Tree and decorations.

Buy lots of food. Obviously Christmas dinner stuff, I would be happy with chicken rather than turkey but must have goose fat for the roasties, stuffing, and some pigs in blankets. Other goodies like chocolates, brandy snaps, biscuits, cheese, crackers, nice bread. Oh and some booze!

Wrap presents- but that's assuming I've previously had a chance to buy them all!

Clean! The house needs to be as clean as possible. Given that I only have one afternoon I expect I'd run the Hoover round and clean the bathrooms.

  1. Get the food in
  2. Tree up
  3. Xmas movies or music
  4. Crackers & table dressing
  5. Gifts under tree

If it’s tomorrow, I’m screwed. I should be installed in our Christmas lodge, wondering what to have for dinner tonight, and I haven’t even packed yet!

DioVelazquez · 21/12/2018 10:58

Make a Christmas playlist...

Then realise it's 11pm and I didn't do any of the other important stuff! Oh well, at least we'll have lots of good Christmassy music.

Clean the house
Prep for roast feast
Turn the fairy lights on - They're up all year round and I can't be bothered with a tree.
Put Pyjamas on

FestiveGanesh · 21/12/2018 11:05
  1. Cleaned house as I've got people coming.
  2. Cooked dinner.
  3. Sorted beds - see 1, above.
  4. Wrapped presents

Otherwise I'm pretty much ready.

chocatoo · 21/12/2018 11:10

Tree
Presents wrapped
Beds made up for visitors
Food for all meals incl xmas meal - a fairly sizeable task...
Quick hoover round

stegosauruslady · 21/12/2018 11:15

I'd...

Run to the shops to buy the dinner.
Wrap presents (well, watch DP wrap presents as I loathe wrapping).
Fantasise about the baby being suddenly being born (37 weeks pregnant) so I can drink whiskey.
Prep cinnamon rolls for the morning (I think if the whole of Christmas were cancelled other than home made cinnamon rolls for breakfast the DC would still be perfectly happy!)
Finish off DP's present.

BlackeyedGruesome · 21/12/2018 11:18

decorate tree
wrap presents
buy a chicken (as food would be undelivered to a house 50 miles away.)

Oh I'm so pleased this is still going! It feels ages since I posted it, and now here we are with only 4 days to go!

It was lovely seeing what was most important to each poster about Christmas.

Wishing you all a very merry Christmas.

I’d just need to do a food shop and finalise wrapping the stocking presents. Sit down with cava and job done.
