Best place for large turkey - maybe organic?

I am hosting Christmas for the first time this year and it's going to be a baptism of fire because I've got 13 people coming!

I've never ordered a large whole turkey before and I would love to get an organic one if possible. Does anyone have any recommendations for where to order one from? I have an Ocado order booked for the evening of the 23rd but the reviews of the large turkeys aren't that good Hmm

Your local butcher?

EvaHarknessRose · 02/11/2018 15:58

Farm shop or local butcher, but expect to pay £££s (maybe £80?) and factor in having to queue to pick it up on the 24th. I think Jon Thorners in Somerset do delivery.

(I was you ten years ago Grin now I buy the cheapest large frozen turkey crown and spend the money on booze to stop me wanting to murder the ungrateful hordes I cater for every year).

These people
www.kellybronze.co.uk/
are very wrell known and do home delivery. There's lots of info on the website, including about organic birds. (they do organic but not for delivery but give information on how their non-organic turkeys are bred and fed)
we used to regularly buy a Kelly Bronze from them -- it has very good flavour and not at all dry. The only reason we stopped is that we now prefer a large rib of beef joint for Christmas!

We have had a farm in Norfolk and the last couple of years field and flower. It will be a lot of money mind - around the £80 mark. We save for food especially throughout the year.

See if you can find a turkey farm in your area, my dad goes to get one every year and you can literally see them walking around the farm so they're definitely fresh and definitely not bred in bad conditions

I always go to my local butcher.

ileclerc · 02/11/2018 17:25

Ask I absolutely wouldn't leave the turkey in the Ocado order!

Another vote for Kelly bronze here

EvaHarknessRose unfortunately I don't really drink but I hear what you're saying! I'm still naive and optimistic about playing happy families ha ha

Thank you everyone for all the suggestions

ileclerc have you had a problem in the past with getting a turkey from Ocado? Are they likely to substitute at the last minute as that would be very stressful!

Have you a booths near you? We’ve just ordered our turkey from them.

ileclerc · 04/11/2018 16:45

@Ladybird909 no never had a problem with Ocado but I'm too risk averse to leave the turkey to a delivery service!!

Abel and Cole deliver organic Kelly Bronzes. I've had a crown from them a couple of times now - always lovely.
