Ideas for 20 year old daughter

I am at a complete loss this year on the present front! My daughter has made no suggestions and it’s driving me insane, I’d love to get started buying presents but have no clue. My daughter is 20, obsessed with History (studying at uni), and is quite girly. She likes her makeup, but has loads and it isn’t something I feel I can buy without her being there. She also loves Drag Race, not sure if that helps! She really loves handbags but already has quite a collection from her savings - two Louis Vuittons, a Chloe and a Mulberry - I can’t really afford to compete with the likes of these, but buying one around the 300/400 mark would be okay. Jewellery wise she likes Alex Monroe and Tiffany, but again those twozseem a little uninspiring at the moment. Anyone got any suggestions from nerdy things to glam girly things?

TIA

You might find some quirky ideas on the natural history museum shop

Northernmum100 · 31/10/2018 15:24

Some contribution towards travel to a place which interests her from a history point of view? Whilst it might not look much e-voucher etc, you could dress it up in a box with other smaller items to do with her trip e.g Guide books etc . Something like this...

Couple of books - history biographies or historical fiction like something by Kate Atkinson.
Make up storage - can pick up some decent stuff on Amazon for about 25-40 quid.
Loungewear - Calvin Klein is v popular at the moment, leggings and bralette maybe.
New hair straighteners/hairdryer/curling wand

I’m sure I’ve seen adverts for Drag Race tours depending on where she lives.

Tickets for a gig/show - Cursed Child or something like that.

A Longchamp bag can be practical and is also a classic.

slappinthebass · 01/11/2018 10:53

£300-400? For an adult DC? For a bag? Christ. Don't think the majority will have suggestions in line with your lifestyle.

BatFacedOK · 01/11/2018 11:06

Ha ha there's always one isn't there ... are you aware that different people have different budgets and we don't all have to either be skint or spend £10?

Op - I have a 20 year old. No interest in history but she's also at uni and quite bookish yet loves her make up and hand bags .. I am giving her £250 and gift wise ..

Huda palette
Chilli water bottle
Several make up sets
Mason Pearson hairbrush
Tote bag
Fleece blanket
Posh hot water bottle

So far!

A trip to Berlin for history galore.

Yes to a Chillys bottle.

A LOngchamp tote bag is a god idea - filled with history books.

Tickets to the Dior exhibition at the V&A next year. Tickets on sale already.

Harebellmeadow · 02/11/2018 05:42

Where do you find a posh hot water bottle batfaced ?

Spa day

Last Christmas I bought for my 19yr old (and boyfriend) a trip to Edinburgh. They loved it. It was from Wowcher I think.
This year they’ve moved in together so they’re getting a microwave. Does she live at home or not? If not maybe something practical for her home?

Nousernameforme · 02/11/2018 07:13

Dd loves drag race as a bit of a gag gift at the same time I know she will love it. We have got her a drag race paper doll book. Where you pop the dolls out and dress them in their outfits.

Gincompetent · 02/11/2018 07:21

New GHDs/GHD hairdryer (I used my DDs ghd hairdryer after mine broke and it is brilliant. Ended up buying myself one even though I wouldn't normally spend that much on a hairdryer!)

A weekend break (hotel & travel) to somewhere with historical sites/significance

Annual Membership for British museums?

thelittlesquidge · 02/11/2018 16:14

Thank you for all of your suggestions so far! Dd lives at uni in a flat with friends, I don’t think she needs anything for the flat (perhaps more pjs, you know what student digs can be like!) I love the idea of filling a handbag with history books, that’s such a fab idea! Again the Chillys water bottle, fab idea that I never would’ve thought of! I will check out Wowcher for some overnight stay type deals. Once again thank you for all of your suggestions, given me a lot of ideas and a lot to think about!

Michael Kors handbag?

Trappedin · 02/11/2018 18:52

Just cash. Everyone prefers cash. My dd and ds are students. £500 each and a stocking of smaller stuff. Job done.

I wouldn’t plan a trip for them, going alone or paying for someone else is a bit bluurgh.

Longchamp bags are for the older market.

Ragwort · 02/11/2018 18:56

Surely cash is the only suitable present for teenagers & ‘adult’ children; my DS is only 17 but there is no way I could choose anything suitable for him, I give a few stocking fillers & cash. He is delighted & can choose to spend it or save it.

Ragwort · 02/11/2018 18:57

And we give nowhere near £500 Grin, just give whatever is suitable for your budget.

theredjellybean · 02/11/2018 19:04

I have just bought all 4 young adult daughters cashmere gloves, beanies and scarfs.. £100 per set from uniglo. Gorgeous colours to choose from buttery yellow, red, cornflower blue and navy... I chose but about 10 different ones.
I also buy them nice underwear.. Different tastes.. Two sporty get Calvin klien and the two more girly ones get Victoria secrets or similar.
We spend about £500 per daughter but this year no one wants one big present apart from my youngest who is getting a snowboard.
The others will get lovely luxury stuff the kind of things they can't afford themselves... Hence cashmere gloves

thelittlesquidge · 02/11/2018 20:02

I would give cash but her dad always gives cash (bit of a deadbeat, doesn’t put in any effort, long story!) So I don’t want her to have no gifts to open and just money. I don’t think she’d like Longchamp or a Michael Kors, compared to what she already has they’d be ‘lesser’, iyswim. Victoria’s Secret and Calvin Klein excellent suggestions! Does anyone know of any good jewelry designers in the league of Alex Monroe or Tiffany? Not Pandora/Swarovski as DD dislikes them and would prefer more of a unique/vintagey aesthetic.

My daughters both like edgeofember.com/collections/necklaces

Paradyning · 02/11/2018 20:42

That is a stunning Bavarian wedding dress. Her grandmother's they are saying!

Paradyning · 02/11/2018 20:42

Whoops wrong thread embarrassed 😳

Leeds2 · 02/11/2018 20:48

theredjellybean, do you have a link to the cashmere sets? Sounds like a good idea.

PeggyIsInTheNarrative · 02/11/2018 20:54

Has she seen Hamilton? Tickets for the show and the Biography?
