Can you help me find a nativity set?

I'm looking for a traditional-style nativity set that will last. Most of the ones I've seen are quite cute/cartoony/stylised which are sweet but we definitely want a traditional one. Don't mind paying a bit.

We've had this since DS was a baby (12 now) & the kids love getting it out. It's an Advent nativity. Not sure if you'd class it as too cartoony but it's very sweet.

From the "holy shop" in Dublin. There are a few to choose from.

grasspigeons · 30/10/2018 16:15

we got a lovely one from TRaidcraft - it was wooden

OlyRoller · 30/10/2018 16:20

I would look on eBay or similar if I wanted a traditional nativity set.

alizarincrimson · 30/10/2018 16:50

@sleepismysuperpower1 - yes! really love some of the ones in the second link.

@4forkssake - love that one too, so sweet. I can see why the kids would love getting all the animals out of the stable.

@focalpoint - like that one too

@mikapatika and @ecofluffynanny - nice. I can imagine getting that one as a second set for children to play with.

@OlyRoller - thanks, I'll take a look

We have a traditional one from the holy shop in Dublin Smile but resin breaks very easily. Glueing baby Jesus head back on is now one of our Christmas traditions! My mother has an indestructible plastic set from the 70s that she refuses to part with but they don’t make them like that anymore.

I got a beautiful traditional nativity set, with a wooden stable, from Pauline Books and Media in Glasgow. They also have branches in London, Liverpool, Newcastle and Slough. I bought it a few years ago and paid around £50 for the stable and £60 for the figures. It's been designed so that the baby Jesus can either lie in the crib, or be held in Mary's arms, which I like.

I've also got a lovely olive wood crib, which I bought in Bethlehem - but that might be a bit far to travel! :-)

I've bought it for my classroom. It's really lovely actually!! I've got a beautiful porcelain set of my own that I bought when I was living in Germany...far too delicate for my 6 year olds 😂😂

Sparrowlegs248 · 30/10/2018 21:09

I live the Sevi one that is in the screenshot above, and almost bought it. But, it was for me really and not the kids so I've got the Osthiemer one. It is a thing if beauty.

Sparrowlegs248 · 30/10/2018 21:10

There 3 different sets, or you can make your own.
