Anyone up for a 'sort out myself / my house / my life for Christmas' thread?

This has become something of an autumn tradition for me. You would think I'd learn from my mistakes, but no! Blush Still, it worked, sort of, last year, so here I go again. Any company and encouragement welcome.

Never mind sorting out Christmas (although I intend to do that with my usual style and poncery chaotic approach) I need to sort out

(1) myself

I need to eat a healthier diet. It has been rubbish since the summer and my winter clothes are now tight.
I need to build some exercise into my week. I love the cold air and blue skies of autumn. Less the rain, but I can't have everything. Cycling to work would be a good start. Maybe even some C25K style running.
I need to go to the dentist, the optician, and the hairdresser.

(2) my house
I need to sort out the garden for winter. The view from my kitchen window is of dead bedding plants and soggy leaves. The shed door needs a lick of paint and the pots need to be put away.
I need a proper sort out and declutter. Targets are the loft, my (and the DCs) wardrobe, and the toybox-coffee table thing in the lounge that could contain pretty much anything and probably hasn't been opened all year.
DC2s room needs some paint. We took down some (baby) border / stickers a few weeks ago and the marks are annoying me.
I need to get a plumber in to look at a dodgy toilet. It is only a matter of time before I really regret not getting it fixed.

(3) my life
Paperwork is taking over my kitchen. Sort, file, or shred.
I need a system to deal with the avalanche of demands that the DCs school sends home in the run up to Christmas. Ditto clubs and their events. We're bound to miss something otherwise.
I'm becoming a real procrastinator and ditherer. I need to get a focus and be more efficient.

Anyone want to join me? I reckon with 8 weeks until Christmas, I should be able to fix those things that annoy me around the house, get on top of the domestic chaos, and shift 10 pounds in weight.

I'm so in. I need this in my life. And I need to make a list!

Alanamackree · 30/10/2018 09:51

I’ve just changed all the beds and sorted out the linen closet. And I’ve made my big Christmas stocking-up list. It’s a start.

thewayoftheplatypus · 30/10/2018 13:57

Officially made a start! Emptied out Ds2’s wardrobe and have a bin bag full of stuff to take to the charity shop- next mission is to actually take it rather than leave it in the hallway for a week!

thistimenextsummer · 30/10/2018 17:02

Myself: have treated myself to a lovely relaxed afternoon bath 🛁 (decadent) can't even begin to comment on food Blush

My house: did 15 mins on bedrooms and a quick swipe of bathrooms this morning. Have made lots of progress on the potential building work.

My life: childcare admin done, docs appointments for kids booked

GreyandGrumpy48 · 30/10/2018 18:03

I really need this and need to sit down and make a list. Drowning in clutter and the whole house needs a deep lean 😞

NoWaterOnlyWine · 30/10/2018 18:15

I NEED this. I just feel totally overwhelmed, so hopefully this'll motivate me.

I need to sort myself and the house out. We're drowning in clutter I always think I'll stick on gumtree but I never have the time. I just want a home I'm not embarrassed of Blush

I need to sort me out too. My diet is shit. I need to sort out all my clothes that don't fit my post baby body. Find a new job. Sort out my student finance. Get a haircut ... I just need a life overhaul!

I'm going to make a proper, manageable list for next week Smile you've all done so much already by making a start! It's really inspiring.

OneStepMoreFun · 30/10/2018 18:44

Hi everyone,

Checking in. Day off work.

Today's self-upgrade Grin:

  • Finally had my hair cut. Long overdue
  • Swam 40 lengths and went for a long walk with a friend
  • Healthy food, no alcohol.

Home:

  • took a bag of stuff to the charity shop
  • tried out the new beeswax and lavender polish I bought to make the house smell good for Christmas.

Boiler service booked
window replacement booked

OneStepMoreFun · 30/10/2018 18:50

Thanks for the Soberoctober support @Peridot.

If only I had as much willpower with food.

flowerycurtain · 30/10/2018 19:38

So I started the week with good intentions but work blew up so I haven't been able to get to the gym or so my house sorting jobs. On the plus side I haven't put weight on!

So tomorrow I will:

  1. eat healthy
  2. do 30 mins of excercise at lease
SawnUpLooRoll · 30/10/2018 21:41

I've drunk loads of water (also peeing like a racehorse) and I cleaned the kitchen floor today! Whoop whoop!

PersisFord · 31/10/2018 05:52

Ok, I have:

Booked my preschoolers immunisations
Drunk a small amount of water

Today I will:
Ring HR about my contract (oh how I hate that)
Sort out our tax free childcare account
Put away some clean laundry
Drink some water

RhinestoneCowgirl · 31/10/2018 06:06

I have large glass of water by my side. Woke up stupidly early (thought there was someone at the door, there wasn't) so used the time to book theatre tickets for day after boxing day.

On today's list:

Start Christmas cake
Put away laundry
Empty bins
Sort out kitchen cupboards (or at least some)

But now going to read my book before DC wake up. Hope everyone has productive day Smile

Freshprincess · 31/10/2018 06:39

Me!

Weight - put on 10lbs over summer so want to shift that. I run 3 times a week, but want start 30 day shed again for core —and bingo wings—
Garden - shocker. Want to cut everything back so I’m not starting spring with a jungle again. I’ve got one more garden waste collection before winter and a half empty compost bin so I want to get that sorted in the next week.
House - I’m one room away from being on one of those hoarder shows! I downloaded all the organized mum stuff and I think it’s a system I can keep to. But I’m 2 weeks into the boot camp and still only finished one room. Rather than get overwhelmed and give up, Christmas seems achievable if I do a little bit every day.

OneStepMoreFun · 31/10/2018 09:45

Managed to squeeze a short hill walk in before work this morning. So glad to get the sunshine.

ZsaZsaMc · 31/10/2018 10:14

Love reading about how productive people are being!

Yesterday I didn’t get much done but I did order some frames to put photos on the wall (M&S - reasonably priced if anyone else is thinking of doing the same!)

Today I’m going to try to chase up a nursery I want to get DS into as need childcare next year so becoming more urgent and start sorting kitchen cupboards! Along with the usual sorting of laundry...

Reaa · 31/10/2018 10:28

I'm in

Need to sort clearing house of all excess stuff and just stuff in general, things we don't want or need,3 bags of dressing up items DC have grown out of.
also need to find the Halloween costumes for tonight so will give me the perfect time to sort all of it.

FussyDora · 31/10/2018 11:18

Oh dear diet hasn't gone well! MUST START TODAY!!!! Bought my Christmas party outfit, a lovely pinstripe sparkly jumpsuit. Bought it in the next size down for inspiration!! Looks ok as it is but would look better without the bloated belly. So I have just over 5 weeks to drop as much weight as possible with a weekend away next weekend thrown in

Spent yesterday amusing 2 bored kids so just the basic day to day stuff done. Today we are pumpkin carving which always creates a mess so will clean kitchen also this aft.

I need to go through paperwork at some point to find some info for PPI claim. So that is my priority for the rest of this week if I don't get much else done with the kids under my feet.

Alanamackree · 31/10/2018 11:39

Sorted out the dc’s wardrobes and filled a bag for the charity shop. Started on phase one of stocking up, and feel that I deserve a medal for doing it with dc in tow (midterm here). Rest of the day will be given over to pumpkin carving, baking and decorating the garden for Halloween so hopefully will get a bit of kitchen cleaning done and the front garden swept. Trying to just do something every day and not think too much about what needs doing or I’ll get overwhelmed.

Magpiefeather · 31/10/2018 13:07

Please can I join! Doing major sorting and generally trying to get myself in gear at the moment so great to have a thread to keep me motivated Smile lately I have become so adept at procrastinating, to an outsider I would just appear lazy Grin

We are moving in 3 weeks and have an 18 month old so I’m going with the “organise the move to within an inch of it’s life” kind of philosophy.

Really need to tackle diet and exercise too but this will have to wait til after Christmas realistically.

Today I have:

  • packed all our summer clothes etc in a box (at least this can go straight in the attic at new house until spring!)
  • filled a charity shop bag and a hand me down bag to give to SIL
  • been on a long invigorating walk
  • packed one more moving box
  • put away the washing

Toddler is napping now so after my recovery cuppa I can hopefully

  • vac downstairs
  • clean and photograph some shoes I need to sell on eBay

Thanks for this thread, hope everyone is having a productive day!

Reaa · 31/10/2018 14:46

Four bags of dressing up clothes sorted into one bag to keep and the rest for donating.

PersisFord · 01/11/2018 05:50

Crikey I haven’t done anything because I forgot it was Halloween and spent the evening doling out lollipops. And had sort of forgotten it was half term so even though I’m off work today I have the children. So, realistically....

Drink some water
As long a walk as kids will tolerate
Ring HR

thewayoftheplatypus · 01/11/2018 06:08

Home: It’s half term so nothing was achieved yesterday. Not a thing! Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

Christmas: took my boys for their Christmas photo shoot. Will use them to make bauble gifts for the grandparents

Me: I didn’t eat any Halloween sweets, but did spend an hour and a half walking around the city with DS1. I’m counting that as a healthy living win!

Betsy86 · 01/11/2018 06:38

I need this thread also!

Wash some of the soft toy hoard and try to be ruthless with getting rid of some to charity/school fetes.

Sending positive organising vibes to all today. Flowers

thistimenextsummer · 01/11/2018 07:11

Morning! 1st of the month always feels like a fresh start! I didn't post yesterday as thought I hadn't achieved anything (away so can't go any house stuff) but on reflection I sent an email to rearrange an appointment, cleared out my inbox of all the junk, and sorted out an annoying glitch on my phone that has made it hard for me to use the email app. All things that make my life feel more sorted so I'm celebrating the small wins!

Today I'm starting 'No drink November' - I did it last year and it really helped reboot healthier living before Christmas excess. Stopover doesn't work for me because of birthdays and half term. I'm also going to dust off the WW app that I've paid for up until the end of the year but never use Blush. And on that note, also book some classes at the gym for next week with the membership I've let lapse!!

I'm going to plan out my calendar from now until Christmas so I can fit everything in and mark out some evenings for wrapping and organising.

1st of month also means bank admin...

RhinestoneCowgirl · 01/11/2018 08:12

This morning I have ordered DS some new trainers - at 12 he is now in adult sizes so suddenly much more expensive! I have also emailed the tree man about getting our hedge cut back before the winter.

Also big glass of water and my vitamin first thing, ✔️✔️

Not sure how much else I'll get done today due to friend visiting for the day with her DC. One of the DC is a toddler and I'm a bit out of practise...
