Stocking Suggestions For 20 Year Old Boy I Have Never Met

Leeds2 · 26/10/2018 13:05

My DD will be bringing her 20 year old boyfriend to my house for Christmas. He isn't English, and his family don't celebrate Christmas typically.

I have a main present in mind for them as a joint present (a weekend away), and would like to do him a stocking as I will for my daughter. Any suggestions for the contents? DD always has a selection box and a chocolate orange, so I will include those. Maybe a Nando's sauce, as I believe he likes a cheeky Nando's! He flies home after a long stay in the UK just before New Year, so nothing too heavy as I presume he will have a lot of luggage!
Also welcome any ideas to make him feel welcome/Christmassy?

Is there any food/drink that is local to your area? Or that is local to his that’s a taste of home?

I always get my South African DH a mini bottle of Amarula and pack of biltong.

Other ideas:
Mini shower gel (Molton Brown)
Keyring to do with his hobbies
Socks

Thanks. Shower gel and socks would work. No idea about hobbies, DD has never mentioned any!

How about a Lego keyring?

Molton Brown are doing upto 25% off this weekend and have very cute shower gel baubles.

Leeds2 · 26/10/2018 18:54

25% off you say?!

How kind are you :)

We put silly games in ours that we can play in the morning. So, wind up toys that we can race and tiddlywinks etc.

Card games can be good- things like uno.

Mini pack of tissues are the family tradition in our house! You can get all sorts of different patterns. Maybe the M&S chcolate sprouts.

Leeds2 · 26/10/2018 19:52

I had been thinking of the Walker's Sprouts Crisps, Melanie, but given I can't see them on sale anywhere, chocolate sprouts would be a good alternative! Or maybe one of them in DD's stocking, and one in his. I want them to be more or less similar, so something like different flavour shower gels is good. I am a bit unnerved by it, if I'm honest!

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 26/10/2018 20:17

Some sort of puzzle- everyone gets a toy here!
A book (also standard here)
Nice pen?
Socks?
Smellies?
Headphones?
Key finder?
Wallet ninja?
Starbucks gift card?
Gloves?

Need to wear glasses while on MN - originally read it as shocking presents!!
Dd1 may have her bf with her for Christmas so will be following with interest, though they are both 24.

Oh, and I'd like my entire stocking filled with mini bottles of Amarula please!!

CaseStudyResearch · 26/10/2018 21:29

12 pack of mini Amarulas on Amazon for £21, wentmad Grin

How sweet of you @Leeds2

onedayiwillmissthis · 26/10/2018 22:04

😂 I thought this was another trans thread 😳

It depends on your budget but I’d go for:

Chocolate of some kind
funny/cool socks
A nice pair of gloves or a nice wool hat
Pjs
Grown up type stationery
A cool or funny mug.
Some form of alcohol (if he drinks)

If he doesn’t typically celebbrate Christmas a personalised stocking might be a nice present in itself.

Leeds2 · 26/10/2018 22:42

I hadn't thought of the personalised stocking, Nona. That is a lovely idea! I just want the lad to feel welcome, and I think that would help.

How about a stocking of British things that he can take back home:
Union Jack tissues, fridge magnet, key ring, match box red bus or black cab, hp sauce, English teabags, mini marmalade/jam

You get the gist

ajandjjmum · 28/10/2018 19:59

I've bought DS the new Stephen Hawking book - 'Brief answers to big questions' - looks interesting, although I obviously haven't had a good read!

Starbucks/Costa gift card?

Leeds2 · 28/10/2018 21:12

From the little I know of him ajand, that might be a good call!! I want to "match" my DD's things with his, and I do know of a book she wants.

Have bought some stuff from Moton Brown this afternoon, mainly for me! Who knew that they was such a thing as spray glitter!!

Lots of youngish men I know are wearing those iPhone AirPods headphone things. Probably expensive but might be a gift idea. What about a card game? Like the new monopoly card game. Good, fast, easy to understand and you can all play together!

WaxOnFeckOff · 28/10/2018 22:03

Condoms? :o

DelphiniumBlue · 28/10/2018 22:12

Our boys traditionally get chocolate orange, socks, a book, a gadget ( torch or mini light?). I got some sci-fi themed playing cards last year - I think from notonthehighstreet- and also screen- touch gloves.

BeautifulPossibilities · 28/10/2018 23:16

Oh my - condoms would be hilarious but it would really depends which kind of Mum you are
