Just wondering if anyone has any particular traditions for New Year's Day? We'll be doing a big roast plus a nice walk, but interested in other food ideas and things to do to mark the day!

Racing at Cheltenham. It’s always a good day’s sport and an excellent antidote to all the Christmas nonsense. It certainly beats bloody shopping!

DH and his brothers take part in the Looney Dook every year at South Queensferry. We normally have family over for a huge lunch of soup, steak pie and apple tart afterwards then play board games.

Our tradition is doing a treasure hunt for the kids. I plan it in advance. Last year included a code to break and mirror writing. I'm already planning this year's treasure hunt!

These all sound lovely! I like the idea of a treasure hunt, though will work better for us when DS is older.

Chuck the tree out, open all the windows and clean the house
