Last year I did this and loved it! (It’s from the bbc good food website) Really easy and very effective. Has anyone decided what they will be doing this year?

I’ll let the dc loose with fondant and see what happens. Last year we had wonky and slightly grayish snowmen (which were uncannily similar to the non-Pinterest snowmen they made in the garden) Grin

@alanamackree I let dc help decorate it one year and have decided I can’t do that again until they’re considerably older Grin

If I make one (not always) I don't bother with icing, since it never got eaten, let alone the marzipan.

I just brush it with warmed apricot jam, then arrange assorted nuts in a nice pattern over the top, brush again with warmed apricot jam, to glaze. Then tie a tartan ribbon round it.

I'm not remotely artistic but it always looks very nice, and people have asked where I bought it.

I am letting Sainsbury's do mine! 😂

I’ve seen some nice pictures on Pinterest of fruit and foliage dusted with icing sugar and arranged in a circle that i’m going to try. Mixture of cranberries, holly leaves, Rosemary branches.

These were mine last year. Simple but effective

Great photos Smile they look amazing!

I'm doing this, which is what I do every year - soft royal icing to make a snow scene and these figures that I've had for ages.

Every year I think I might do something different but I never do!

I'll be making a cake for just the second time. Last year the first time I have ever used marzipan and fondant I kept it v. simple with a white-on-white array of stars.

This year, I feel more ambitious (thanks to a deep dive on Pinterest, too!)

If I wimp out on something with a cabin and trees, I still have a star cutter at the ready.

Some lovely cakes guys.

Musical maybe they could assemble and decorate a gingerbread house, with their own, ahem, creative flair. 😊

Looking at all of your cakes, they look so good and yummy. I'll be baking cake with my kids. This is also my favorite part during Christmas.

Musicalstatues · 16/10/2018 09:35

@fieryginger that’s exactly how I distracted them last year Grin

The same as the last few years coloured fondant, varies from year to year and I have a snowflake press which I make white snowflakes and cover them with edible glitter and place at random, definitely my best effort.
