Is Sainsbury's Christmas food any good compared to M&S?

I've never bought either before, but after spending Christmas Day in the kitchen last year, this year I'm buying time.

The nearest M&S is 15 miles away in a busy town. My local Sainsbury's is a stone's throw. I could make M&S work at a push as we have a day out on the 22nd and could collect the stuff on the way home, but the desserts might take a battering.

So, is Sainsbury's pre-prepared Christmas food on a par, or does it taste like ready-meal fare in comparison?

We did Sainsburys last year and it was nice. We didn't get the meat there though. Haven't done m&s for a while.

Never done Sainsbury's but had m & s last year and was really disappointed. We had crown, hams, veg, fresh stuffing etc.

Sainsbury's Xmas food is fab!

We had 3 bird roast from Sainsbury's last year and it was rubbish. Completely ruined Xmas lunch! I wonder if they had a lot of negative feedback on it as it's not in the catalogue this year.

We had the Sainsbury's Beef Wellington and the 5 veg medley to accompany it (roast potatoes, braised red cabbage, sprouts, cauliflower cheese and I can't remember the fifth). The Wellington was lovely and £10 cheaper than the M and S one.

The veg medley however was very mediocre. So won't be bothering with that this year

What would you be thinking of ordering?

Why don't you order fro. Cook? They have a fantastic reputation. I've only eaten a few things from them, but all have been great.

Ooh yes, Cook over Sainsbury’s and M&S any day. And they deliver! Saving even more time.

Cook is good, but don’t order their gravy- is very disappointing!

I’ve done Sainsbury’s and M&S and have split my order between them over the last few years. I priced up the price of Turkey per 100g and got far better value from the best Sainsbury’s ones than the best M&S ones. Generally I’ve found that the buffet food from M&S is better as are some of the garnishes and gravy. This year the puddings in Sainsbury’s look really good. Cook looks good and I use them a lot but I haven’t done their Christmas food before.

I was thinking of the salmon terrine starter, luxury veg, turkey lattice thing, the gammon and a dessert, probably the salted caramel dome thing.

At the moment I'm thinking Sainsbury's just for ease.
