Fjall Raven backpack for teenager

Hello, I’m looking for a backpack as a present for DD at senior school. The latest craze seems to be for Fjall Raven and they look really expensive, particularly since it needs to be big enough to hold A4 folders.
Does anyone have any tips for how to get a discount on these / where to find them at less than full price?
Really grateful if you can help.

Try ASOS. They frequently have 20% offers

sleepismysuperpower1 · 13/10/2018 14:25

i would have a look on ebay or gumtree. often they are being sold on there (second hand but in very good condition)

Hello

Not strictly answering your question but DD,yr9, had one for two years & it was not great for A4 folders. Swapped over to Superdry which seems to he doing better.

We bought our Fjallraven from Amazon. Wink

If she needs proper A4 folders not just workbooks I think they are too small.

My daughters school has a craze for them but they're buying copies from eBay. She doesn't use hers for school though as it's nowhere near big enough

Just be careful there are loads of fakes around.

I’d suggest buying directly off Amazon to be safe, reasonable prices too.

Thank you so much for your advice everyone - armed with your advice I’ll do some research in the morning! Love these threads - so grateful.

I saw them in Urban Outfitters the other day, and was surprised at how thin and flimsy they felt for the price. They seem to look a lot sturdier when you see them out and about. I’d be interested (as an aside - sorry to hijack) what people’s views on quality are.

As they do feel quite thin and flimsy i’m wondering whether a fake might be a better investment for the price!

sunshineroo · 14/10/2018 01:47

I have had one for a while

Thin flimsy but incredibly hardy. I love mine

Taffeta · 14/10/2018 15:55

I bought DDs from Urban Outfitters recently

Got 10% off as signed up to mailing list (then unsubscribed after)

They are a perfect size, and yes very lightweight but surprisingly sturdy

Whynotnowbaby · 14/10/2018 16:00

I love mine, very strong and hardy for all the battering it gets, I spent days googling deals and voucher codes and eventually found a website with a sale which also offered 20% off a first order, it was still pretty expensive though!

Nanasueathome · 14/10/2018 16:10

I actually bought direct from Fjallraven
Very good quality and excellent customer service
I bought 3 kids Kanken backpacks in August last year, for Christmas 2017
On Christmas Day we discovered they were too small (only for up to age 5, although this is not clear on the website)
I contacted Fjallraven and they agreed to exchange them for bigger ones and even sent a pre paid return label
Turnaround was very quick and we had 3 very happy boys

Theworldisfullofgs · 14/10/2018 16:14

Dd has one for sixth form and she can get her folders in it. We just kept an eye out for the sale.

It seems to be v sturdy.

BikeRunSki · 14/10/2018 16:18

They are unscruturd and lightweight.
This is not the same as thin and flimsy. DH has one which is 30 years old!

Verbena87 · 14/10/2018 16:19

I’ve got a 30 litre one and it’d be fine for folders, though I use it as a nappy bag.

It’s sturdy and comfy and I like it a lot.

seven201 · 14/10/2018 18:22

I use one as a change bag for dd. Got it on a 20% off day on ASOS.

FabulousTomatoes · 14/10/2018 18:26

Ok that sounds good. I might look into getting one then if they’re as strong as the price indicates!

TheGoatSaysHello · 14/10/2018 18:37

For A4, make sure you get the extra large size - the standard is too small, really.

I haven't been very impressed...DS has used his only since May and the fabric is bobbled and has gone kind of white in areas Confused
