Ideas for a day out

DS's birthday is in September (he's 5) so he's just got a tonne of new toys. He'll get similar for Xmas from other people so I really want to get him a 'day out' from me and DH, an experience he'll remember rather than a thing.

We're based in Yorkshire but happy to travel up to a three hours/ potential overnight in this country I'm just struggling for ideas.

There's nothing on locally at the theatre, and we go to the cinema a fair bit so needs to be special, ideally to go to in the first half of the year so it doesn't seem too far away to him. Any ideas?

My DS's loved Legoland at that age.

Ooh now why did I not think of that! He loves Lego, could try find discounted tickets as well.

For DDs 6th birthday we did lego land and she LOVED It. It was the first weekend of their season we went and booked it as a package. 2 days park entry (sat and sun. You really do need 2 days for it) for 2 adults and DD and 2 nights stop in Bracknell Hilton (fri and sat) for £300

We were also looking at a trip to London. The plan was to see a show and as she was doing about the great fire of London at school to go and see some bits around that plus open top bus ride, but the show we wanted to see had just finished and we didn't fancy anything else
