What are you buying your (non-girly) 16/17 year old dd as a main present?

Looking for inspiration for 16y/o dd who doesn't really need (or want) any obvious major things. (Last birthday ex-H & I clubbed together to get her Hamilton tickets which were a big success, that's going to be a hard one to live up to Grin.)

Cash and something like Doc Martens

DD had classic oxblood DMs as her 15th birthday present and she absolutely loves them. In fact, they're the only footwear she wears other than sandals - I did ask if she fancied a brightly coloured pair as an alternative (thinking of Christmas), & she thought about it for a bit then said no, she was just happy with her plain ones. Admirably non consumerist, but not very helpful on the present front...

Could you get her tickets for another west end show and have a wee weekend away in London? If she’s into shows in general? I’m 19 and that’s the sort of thing I’d really appreciated as a big present a few years ago Smile

Dd1 has just turned 17. She wants a nice watch and an Amazon echo so I'm thinking of getting her the little round one with a screen on it so she can use it as a clock and to video call friends.

DD16 is getting an Apple Watch.... there is nothing else she wants other then the Look fantastic advent calendar, which she is also getting. She asked for a Fitbit but we are going to get her the watch instead as a surprise.

@muddling look at Cluse watches... they’re nice and you can change the straps on them.

I could do another show Discobabe - better as a birthday present though as we can combine with a bit of a summer holiday (live a long way from London!)

Just a little bump in case anyone is around with more ideas.

Thinking of a wide mouthed food flask as a smaller present - she has a thermal cup which goes to college every day, but she's a big soup fan so the option to take that for lunch might be nice for winter.

For main present I'm discussing with ex-H going joint on a new laptop - she's got a very elderly mac & doesn't want to change over to PC, but it's really on it's last legs.

My 2 (nearer to 15 & 17) are getting cash. A Jack Wills hoodie and tshirt, nice Boots No7 set to encourage them to look after their skin, bits and bobs....... then no idea!

Sadik · 13/10/2018 21:29

I can do the bits and bobs - lots of nice suggestions on another thread, and tbh some good socks, nice shower gel etc always go down well. Just a main present that's tricky...

Sandwich toastie making, big hit with my teen. Goes well with soup too!

cathyandclare · 14/10/2018 22:22

Take her to see Six or The Waitress...

cathyandclare · 14/10/2018 22:23

....or Book of Mormon

Mamamanatee · 14/10/2018 22:25

An hp sprocket?

SimplyPut · 14/10/2018 22:27

Book of Mormon is a good shout if your looking for birthday tickets.

Apple Watch, MacBook, new iPhone, under17 driving lessons or a European weekender would all be popular here.

recklessgran · 14/10/2018 22:27

Young driver experience voucher?

Sadik · 31/10/2018 21:31

Ah - I'd missed that there were some more posts. We've gone halves on a 'new' (2nd hand but good) macbook air, so main present well sorted. Taking notes for birthday though!
Not quite sure young driver experience would be the ticket round here - they can all drive tractors from 14... Grin
