How do I decorate the outside of my house?

It's official, putting your decorations up early is good for you

With that in mind, help me decorate the outside of my house.

In the past, I've opted for a tastefully decorated & illuminated tiny fur tree on the doorstep with a wreath on the front door. It looks nice, but not exactly OTT.

What else can I do? I have no idea how to do outside lights for example as they all seem to be mains powered.

We have a largish outdoor display that gets turned on the 1st Dec . We’ve downsized it a bit over the years and it’s all white so very tasteful and not gaudy . It’s basucally icicle lights round the house / garage at 3 levels , a line of stars up the sides of the drive and 3 Christmas trees and 4 reindeer on the front lawn . Dh put outside sockets in a few years ago and all the transformers get taped into waterproof boxes that are designed for the job .

Plus I hang icicle lights from the outside gutter. The cable feeds through a downstairs window as they are mains operated

We have tall lanterns with slow burning pillar candles inside, two or three of various heights. We bought them in Germany so they are very sturdy and beautifully made. Of course if there is an chance that someone could grab one and do a runner you need to be able to put them somewhere out of reach! I love lighting them when it’s getting dark in the winter.

Great suggestions, currently googling them all. Outside sockets may be required.

So no-ones going for anything like this ?

Tacky? well yes, but the older I get, the less I care.

My children loved a local house who every year had something like this outside.

There's nothing I love more than wrapping up warm on a cold December evening and taking ddog for a walk to look at all the pretty Xmas decorations on the houses. Yes, the tackier the better because they make me and the dc smile the biggest.
Wouldn't it all be rather dull and sad if no-one decorated the outside of their houses because they want to be classy?

So my advice? Go big!! And go bright! And that inflatable tree is awesome

This is one of local houses that put a display on every year to help raise money for charity. They have snow machines too. The children love going to see what they have added every year

Where the hell do they store all of that during the year?
