Favourite Christmas "posh" treats

I'm looking for some nice little treats that obviously wouldn't be brought on a normal basis.

We usually like to get some posh biscuits from Fortnum and mason and some Charbonnel et Walker chocolate truffles.

What are your little Christmas luxury's? X

@TubbyTubster I have just gone down a Fortnum and Mason rabbit hole and now have a wish list of about £280 worth of Christmassy stuff...

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/10/2018 18:55

Niederegger Marzipan - only the dark chocolate and only the original flavour

adoggymama · 10/10/2018 19:15

My mums homemade mince pies!Grin

They're only around once a year- she must make at least 20 batches during December to cover the demand from her workplace, parties and her kids! (Me)

Other than that, we don't really buy fancy biscuits or chocolates, just wait and see if we're given any. Have all the usual supermarket stuff though :)

Shampaincharly · 10/10/2018 19:31

Yes to the rose and violet creams.
Colston Bassett Stilton, vacherin d’or cheeses.
Lebkuchen.

Yum yum yum!

Adding snowballs to my list!

Chocolate orange is a must, I put one in the toe of DSs stocking!

GinFuzzy · 10/10/2018 22:37

Oh yes, lebkuchen!! While watching Xmas movies on freeview Smile

64BooLane · 10/10/2018 22:48

Glass jars of cherries in thick kirsch syrup from M&S.

I put them on ice cream, or on cheesecake, or just quietly eat them with a spoon.

PrivateParkin · 10/10/2018 23:04

I love Christmassy drinks - but have never tried a snowball. For some reason I always thought it had raw egg in it?! Blush But I can see now that it doesn't - might give it a go this year...

MinaPaws · 10/10/2018 23:52

Now I want marzipan fruit. And lebkuchen.

PrincessTwilightStoleMyToddler · 11/10/2018 00:05

Parkin - I think you can either make snowballs with Advocaat or you can use brandy, sugar syrup and a raw egg. At least, I have vague memories of making it like that as a student for Christmas parties because doing that using Sainsbury’s own brand brandy worked much cheaper than Advocaat. One year we bought all the brandy in the local Sainsbury’s. And added the leftover brandy to the mulled wine.

Now realising there may have been a number of reasons I didn’t get a first...

Also now badly want marzipan.

JuliaSevern · 11/10/2018 00:45

I've had a bottle of brandy on my fridge for years that is only used at xmas. It's sloshed on the xmas pud for flaming, then extra sloshed on after the flaming, then brandy cream added. Yum. Hopefully brandy doesn't ever go off!

PrivateParkin · 11/10/2018 09:44

Thanks Princess - that's good to know!! Will definitely give them a go this year - they just look so festive.

SymphonyofShadows · 12/10/2018 19:04

I also enjoy Hotel Chocolat Marzipan box.. £10 and a real treat

uncomfortablydumb53 · 13/10/2018 15:12

I love Asda Extra Special Christmas Cake It has lots of Brandy soaked Fruit and you can actually taste the brandy

Lucked · 13/10/2018 15:16

Niederegger little chocolate marzipans, the flavoured ones. The liquor ones are especially Christmassy.

LeMesmer · 14/10/2018 00:25

Cheese- we live in France so have a great everyday selection but I will go to the posh cheese shop and buy some superior quality Camembert and Epoisse (I won’t take DS with me who announced a few years ago to DH that Mummy had just spent 20 euro on 2 pieces of cheese Grin).

Fior de Latte liquor from Italy.

A couple of boxes of nice Lindt chocolates, I can take it or leave it at other times in the year but love a few chocolates at Christmas.

Fearandsurprise · 14/10/2018 02:35

Biddy Thanks to you also mentioning them in previous years, orangettes are now a Christmas must-have for me.
