Favourite Christmas "posh" treats

I'm looking for some nice little treats that obviously wouldn't be brought on a normal basis.

We usually like to get some posh biscuits from Fortnum and mason and some Charbonnel et Walker chocolate truffles.

What are your little Christmas luxury's? X

Oh and not posh but mumsnet favourite Lidl mini Stollen of course.

PrivateParkin · 09/10/2018 22:45

Marks cherry liqueurs
Ooh yes I love them. Haven't had them for a couple of years, I think they're due a revival. And their Turkish delight is nice too.

I love Florentines, usually get them; pickled walnuts as well (Opies is the brand we've had I think?), Finn crisp (crackers for cheese), chestnut puree for making nigella's Mont Blanc puds, after eights, green ginger wine (gorgeous on the rocks or with a squeeze of lime), sloe gin.

Great thread, am getting loads of ideas Grin

Charbonnel and walker make rose and violet creams.

Membrillo
Peppered cashews
Balsamic cashews
Swedish crispbreads (proper Swedish ones)
Barolo
Lebkuchen
Niederegger marzipan
Cheese, cheese, and more cheese

moolady1977 · 09/10/2018 22:50

It has to be violent creams (my dm named them that for some strange reason) I haven't tried the rose ones are they as nice?

Nearlyoldenoughtowearpurple · 09/10/2018 22:52

Brown brothers orange muscat for after dinner
Bendicks bitter mints

AgnesNaismith · 10/10/2018 06:35

Rose creams are lovely but they also make the violet even nicer somehow.

A local pub has violet gin, that’s on my Christmas list too!

LadyPenelope68 · 10/10/2018 06:42

Another rose and violets cream fan, what's the name of the maker! For goodness sake tell us you won't be accused of anything

Is it Beech’s? Their rose and violet creams are THE best!!

Cinnamomo · 10/10/2018 06:57

Rose and violet creams for me too! my favourite brand is House of Dorchester which you can buy in Waitrose. I've tried the ones from Fortnum and Mason which aren't any better in my opinion but they do have a milk chocolate coated version if you're not keen on dark chocolate. Also Hotel Chocolat make them but the chocolate is far too thick and nowhere near enough filling.

showmewhatyougot · 10/10/2018 07:08

Yum! I've added so many of these to my list!

Making little treat hampers for people this year :)

Not as "posh" but Aldi salted caramel mince pies are amazing!

I'm going to try marrons glacÄ— this year

moolady1977 · 10/10/2018 08:13

Just remembered I actually get my violet creams from Aldi can't remember who makes them but they are delicious and I have been known to demolish the whole box while watching a film

PrivateParkin · 10/10/2018 08:24

For those who like Beech's rose and violet creams, have you tried their black cherry creams?! They are gorgeous.

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 10/10/2018 08:29

Carluccios do amazing dark chocolate covered orange rind, I always buy a box at Christmas and they are delicious.

PhilODox · 10/10/2018 08:58

I agree, briochex3- the carluccio lunettes are delicious.

AgnesNaismith · 10/10/2018 09:00

Panettone!!!

BeaLola · 10/10/2018 09:45

Pickled walnuts are by Opies - only a small jar never seen a large jar but they are sold all year round - I buy them for my Dad all year round as he loves them - think they are £2.69 or £2.89 a jar - I have bought from Tesco, Morrison, Waitrose.

Re treats - nougat , proper snowballs made from scratch, huge prawns ready to grill in garlic for a starter, M&S canapés for Christmas Eve orvBoxing Day , amaretto licquer

MinaPaws · 10/10/2018 09:48

Tewton's cheddar and Neal's Yard Blue Stilton with Carr's fine water biscuits. Never have these usually. The rest of the family love bendick's mints too. I hate them - dark chocolate ruined by toothpaste filling. But we have those too.
Turkish delight.
Smoked salmon.
Crates of clementines
Walnuts in shells.
I can eat my body weight in walnuts and clementines.

crochetmonkey74 · 10/10/2018 10:40

Bath Oliver biscuits
Domino little square marzipan things form Lidl (not posh just AMAZING)
Homemade Cinammon rolls
Lots of nice nut mixes

BiddyPop · 10/10/2018 12:01

Proper stilton.

Some amaretti biscuits (for me) and a new bottle of amaretto if the current one is very low (I'm the only one who drinks it, and the small bottle lasts me about 4-5 years!).

A large bag of Leonidas orangettes - thick slices of candied orange peel in dark chocolate.

And proper stolen - the Lidl version is very good and a luxury for me.

HeidioftheAlps · 10/10/2018 12:04

I like PiÄ— d'Angloys and Cambozola or Bleu d'Auverne cheese, so will have some of that with crackers.

NicoAndTheNiners · 10/10/2018 13:32

Marzipan fruits.

TubbyTubster · 10/10/2018 17:39

Glittery jam from Fortnum & Mason.

PrincessTwilightStoleMyToddler · 10/10/2018 18:18

Glittery jam?! That sounds AMAZING!! (Dammit Tubster I’m going to have to look on the Fortnum and Mason website now - and that never ever ends cheaply...)

PrincessTwilightStoleMyToddler · 10/10/2018 18:24

They do glittery rum butter!! Shock Grin

TubbyTubster · 10/10/2018 18:30

Sorry Princess but it is worth it, I promise!
