Looking for some inspiration please. First Christmas where we are not having all the family just me hubby and kids so want to try a few new things.

Would anyone mind sharing their favourite Christmas recipes whether it be the best way to cook your meat or vegies, recipes for puddings or bits and bobs for buffets (we usually have one on Christmas eve).

Anything you make that's really yummy Smile

Haven’t made it yet but I’ve heard Nigel Slater has the best Christmas pudding recipe, will be trying it out this year!

Thanks tubby will have a look at that Smile

She is a bit old school but I don't think you can go wrong with Delia Smith. I've used her Christmas cake and pudding recipes for years.

For some baking in advance, I love Mary Berry's make and mature Christmas cake on BBC good food.

I'd second Delia's Christmas book - lots of ideas for nibbles and other meals. I've loads of Christmas books and that's one I keep going back to

I love Nigella's Cherry Coke Ham recipe- yummy!

How old are your DC?

We have always had Christmas at home by ourselves and I’ve catered to their ages, too little equals no big roast but lots of everything served through the day.

No stress over fancy puddings, they all love bananas and custard and I love baileys, chocolates and board games so win win!

I make Christmas cake from a recipe from Tesco, you can use tea instead of brandy/rum. It’s easy and always taste delicious.
I also make cranberry and white chocolate cookies I make half mid December and freeze the rest of the dough so we can bake them Xmas eve in time for Santa s arrival.

Nigella Chilli Jam is perfect with cold cuts - I make it every year and it isn’t Christmas without it! Her Christmas Chutney is also fab.

Jamie’s get ahead gravy....

Asj0405 · 08/10/2018 23:46

Delias Christmas book sounds like a good idea then.

I've also seen Jamie's get ahead gravy mentioned a few times over different threads so I think I may be giving that a go.

The coke ham I have heard of before but must admit I've never tried so that may also be something ill have to have a go at.

Thanks everyone Smile
