Pre ordering Christmas food shop?

Hello!

I have never ordered in a Christmas food shop as we prefer to go and do it ourselves and it's usually lots of fun.
This year my husband is working all over Christmas and won't have time to help me do the shop.
I can't drive and I'll have a 2 year old toddler and be 6 Months pregnant at Christmas, So I've decided I'll have to do it online.

I've signed up to a Tesco delivery plan as it says you have to be subscribed by November.

Does anyone have any tips for doing the Christmas shop online for Christmas? What day do you get it delivered on?

Our Christmas shop is usually 2 large trollies full so I'm a bit worried about doing it online. Would you buy your meats separately so you can look at them first??

Book a slot as soon as they become available buy a bottle of champagne and then edit it nearer the time.

Wasn’t there a thing though last year where orders that consisted only of booze got bumped or something? I may be misremembering, but there’s a faint memory alarm bell ringing about this. Maybe put some proper groceries in the basket too to be safe.

If you do Waitrose you can book it now.

No waitrose is a bit pricey I'm afraid. So it's going to be Tesco. I've booked regular shops with asda before and they were awful so not going with them.

No need for alcohol in this house as I'm pregnant and my partner doesn't drink at all. So literally just all the fresh food and all the extra bits that end up in the Christmas trolley.

I don't want to book it to arrive to early because the dates don't usually last as long on a online shop do they? Or at least past regular asda shops I've had that's the case.

Do the slots go really quickly as soon as they open? I'm really overthinking this I know, but I like everything to be organised and planned ahead.
I was going to do a list of everything but leave off the turkey, gammon and beef and maybe order them from a butcher which I've also never done.

I usually get my Tesco order in the evening of. 23rd December. There are certain items I don't want substituted if they aren't available, and that means I have Christmas Eve to get anything that wasn't delivered.

My Tesco shop is my usual grocery shop plus extra veg, drinks, basics. Particularly the heavy stuff

Whenever I've been doing Christmas Dinner, I also have a M&S or Waitrose shop booked for collection at 9am on Christmas Eve so while we are there to collect DH queues for the order and I pick up any last minute or missing items.
