Inspired by the what would you like for christmas thread, I thought there might be more inspiration for people in hearing about past presents you have loved - not just loved because it meant they had thought of you but loved because you have used or kept it. So actually my best gift was a v fluffy v warm Rosie Huntingdon dressing gown from M&S that I got three or four years ago and is now a daily staple for me in winter. They still do it - I so recommend it.

A beautiful charcoal drawing of my Grandchildren.

I was moved to tears !!

I usually get from DH ( in a good year)

Perfume set - often nothing I really like despite telling what I like, one year I got the tester pot of body lotion with the TESTER label on it

Chocolates - don’t mind too much, although I rarely eat them I always but a couple of boxes st Christmas which I do like so another box which I don’t like isn’t the greatest of gifts.

A dressy scarf - which I do like but I have hundreds and if I want a new one would rather pick my own.

But, but , last year he bought me a lovely fountain pen. I always use a fountain pen but never an expensive one, although I always wanted one. So he really surpassed himself with my best gift ever. No doubt this year it will be chocolates, perfume, scarf...

Last year I got a klean kanteen insulated tumbler with lid and flask with something called a cafe cap - the top twiddles round to be either fully closed or open with a little hole like a cup from Starbucks. With a child regularly in hospital it’s been a godsend to have a covered cup, but I’ve also been able to take cups of tea absolutely everywhere with me and drink them hours later. Definite win for me.
And from my MIL too!

Mine was a huge glass lantern with a grade a rose 🌹 it looked like velvet/suede inside the lantern with a little LED light on the top of lantern shining down , Exactly like the one off Beauty and the Beast...☺️...

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 03/10/2018 11:13

Not mine, but someone I knew.
With Christmas coming up after she'd been very busy with work, kids, etc,., and she had guests coming to stay and the house needed a really good blitz, her dh paid for a team of cleaners to come in and give everything a really good clean, inc. oven, carpets and windows.

She said it was her best present ever.

IIRC her dh worked v long hours and was away a lot for work, so couldn't do much - before anyone asks why he couldn't chip in, too.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 03/10/2018 11:38

A really good one was my lovely sheepskin house boots from Celtic Sheepskin - had to give dh exact details or he wouldn't have had a clue, but it saved him racking his brains/traipsing round the shops.

In a different way, a large gift set of smellies from a dd who was only about 9 at the time. I think it was probably from Woolies, i.e. although impressive looking, relatively very cheap, but she was so proud of having chosen and paid for it with her pocket money, I was equally glad to receive it. And yes, I did use it all!

Before Thorntons got really crap, you used to be able to fill your own chocolate box with your own choice of chocolates. So none of the nutty ones or fruit creams or champagne bloodhound truffles. Brilliant.

Jammiebammie · 03/10/2018 11:52

Dh bought me a stocking a few years ago and it was my favourite present ever! I never had one as a child and he filled it with lots of things I love - nothing expensive but the thought really blew me away.
He always gets expensive gifts for me which actually make me feel guilty but this one I loved!!

Courtney555 · 03/10/2018 19:21

A really fancy pants handbag or pair of shoes. There's something so lovely and traditional about it, just feels extra Christmassy.

Hellohah · 03/10/2018 19:26

A kindle.
My step dad doesn't buy presents, for anyone.
My Mum does all the present shopping and he goes mad because she goes overboard, so when he came out one year with the most terribly wrapped present ever, and presented it to me, we were all in shock.
But he was proud as punch, and I have used it everyday for years.
But he knew I would, and that's why he bought it. So it means an awful lot to me

My celtic and co sheepskin slippers, which I adore

A couple of years ago OH had a couple of things framed for me - an antique map and an antique newspaper page. Both things we'd had for a long time but they look amazing properly framed.

SockEatingMonster · 03/10/2018 19:53

Oh gosh, that’s lovely @Hellohah. I think I have something in my eye...

My best ever gift was muck boots (nice ones from the Original Muck Boot Company). I always buy cheap wellies and suffer cold feet. They have survived nearly 3 years of heavy use and brought me immeasurable joy.

EmpressJewel · 03/10/2018 19:55

Not for Christmas, but a few years ago, DM went to America and brought me back a pair of boots, bag and watch. Must have cost a fortune as they were fairly expensive brands.

Bearbehind · 03/10/2018 21:32

That's so lovely hellohah

On the other hand, if my husband thought my Christmas present was paying for the house to be cleaned, I'd probably kill him! 😂

DelurkingAJ · 03/10/2018 23:14

My Kenwood...various friends thought I should be miffed at such a practical present but I was (and am) thrilled as I’d never have bought myself a really good mixer and I use it all the time.

Angelcd · 14/10/2018 19:15

Mine was a michael kors bag but cheaper gifts is my fave perfume ,my fave make of make up brushes ,any lush or soap & glory items im also a fan of disney store mugs never too old for some disney items x

Isadora2007 · 14/10/2018 19:46

I was going to say my My Little Pony Dream Castle... then realised we were talking about grown up presents.
I appreciate all presents people give me- although I love to give presents I feel awkward receiving them weirdly.

bionicnemonic · 14/10/2018 19:52

Someone burned my cd collection onto the Mac so I can have it on my phone wherever I go...great pressie!

Ragh · 14/10/2018 19:53

I burst into tears when the kitchenaid appeared. Was heavily pregnant and had wanted one for years but couldn't justify the cost. DD demands to bake for Daddy on at least a weekly basis

littlegecko · 14/10/2018 19:59

isadora When I read the title of this thread, my "My Little Pony Dream Castle" also sprung to mind Grin. I actually threw myself on the sofa and was punching and kicking the air because I was so happy.
My family still talk about this and my Mum has the Castle (and Majesty and Spike) in her loft. Shes never even let my children play with it, incase it gets broken !!

My adult favourite present was a Britpop book my DP bought me last year. He always gets me expensive things that I do love - but the book was really unexpected and thoughtful.

nuttynutjob · 14/10/2018 20:10

I love getting Soap and Glory gift sets- love the Righteous Butter

Contigo and Bodum travel mugs

Gammeldragz · 14/10/2018 20:11

Last year DH got me a heated car seat cover after I'd been raving about my friend's new car having heated seats (it was winter and we car shared). It made me so happy and I am very hard to buy for!

My best friend bought me a globe once as a joke about how crap I am at geography. It has been very useful! Another year she got me a radio, 10+ years on it is still in use in the kitchen. She also bought me a drill and toolkit which has also been handy. She's the only person who reliably buys me stuff I actually use. Last birthday it was a mooncup, though I had actually asked for that!

Santaclarita · 14/10/2018 20:55

Technically my horse although he was a very early christmas/birthday present.

BikeRunSki · 14/10/2018 21:02

Skis

AllHallowsQueen · 14/10/2018 21:49

My diamond eternity ring from DH was the best present I’ve ever been given by a mile!
