My Dirty Little Christmas Secret

This is going to sound crazy but I have a pretty long commute, 3 hours in total each day and as of last week I have been listening to Christmas music both to and from work 😋This is the only time I get to myself each day so I feel like I'm in my own little secret bubble in my car. Somewhat ridiculously though I'm far too embarrassed to admit this to anyone (it being still only September and all) but it makes me happy and cosy inside and I feel empowered with my secret (clearly I lead a very sad life). Anyone else have their secret Christmas prep?

I don't even really like Christmas but we only own one CD and it's a Christmas one so that lives in the car where our only CD player is so we just have it on all year.

Most of the time I don't really notice but I must admit it was quite strange listening to "Driving Home for Christmas" during the heatwave!

MyPatronusIsABadger · 24/09/2018 15:44

That is the best thing ever! I’ve just given up an awful long commute for a short walk....why didn’t I think of that?!

leaveituntiltomorrow · 24/09/2018 16:42

Love your dirty little secret OP Mine is that I’ve been watching trashy Christmas films on True Christmas today. Blush

Fstar · 24/09/2018 18:39

If a christmas song comes on in the car when ipod on shuffle, i let it play, even if its june and the hottest day of the year 😁

Alanamackree · 24/09/2018 20:43

MN Christmas board is my dirty little secret Grin I'm not actually a huge fan of actual Christmas, but I like the idea of it. I really would prefer if shops would wait until December to put out their stock, and I don't want to listen to Christmas songs, yet will happily plan Christmas and ponce for months ahead. Truly weird.

Smellybears · 24/09/2018 20:45

I’ve already been wearing my Christmas knickers! 😳

CrazyBaubles · 24/09/2018 21:18

Remember that feeling on Christmas morning when you were little, when you woke up and the excitement that Santa had been was almost too much to handle? I still get that feeling for 5 mins or so when I get up early and it's still dark. It'll last until mid October ish when I get used to it. I've never told anyone that!

I also listen to Christmas music sometimes if I'm in the car and it's cold and dark outside. It cheers me up.

My dirty Christmas secret is probably actively participating in the Christmas countdown thread throughout the year for the last few years. I love it but can't imagine the reaction of DH or my friends Xmas Grin

Reaa · 24/09/2018 21:26

Remember that feeling on Christmas morning when you were little, when you woke up and the excitement that Santa had been was almost too much to handle?. Yes! That's me at the moment, the little bubbles of excitement Grin

flapjackfairy · 24/09/2018 21:26

I use christmas mugs all year and have a few christmassy bits out all year round as well , it just makes me happy so what is wrong with it ? I watch christmas films and look at decorations all year round as well !

Plural · 24/09/2018 21:28

Ive already eaten 24 mince pies

dingdongdigeridoo · 24/09/2018 21:59

I’ve been burning Xmas candles. To be honest, I don’t find many scented candles that I actually like, so I could happily burn the Xmas spice ones all year round. Also, so many candles don’t actually smell of anything once you burn them. Only the Xmas ones seem to have a proper scent.

earlgreymarl · 25/09/2018 06:43

This is so funny, I was wondering yesterday if it would be mad to incorporate little pockets of Christmas joy with music over the next few weeks as a stress reliever as I know it's going to be v busy! @alanmackree, I totally get that , it's all about the build up for me too!

blacksmiths09 · 25/09/2018 06:54

I watch Xmas films, listen to Xmas music, burn Xmas candles and have fairy lights all over the house ALL year! My family and friends have just accepted it now!

flapjackfairy · 25/09/2018 08:23

Oh yes I only burn Christmas scented candles so they are always on the go each night and yes also fairy lights. I feel quite miffed in summer when it is light until late and can't wait to get the curtains drawn and fire on in autumn. People think I am mad but I can't help it. This part of the year fills me with excitement and joy !

marmiteloversunite · 25/09/2018 08:28

I'm recovering from an op and the only films I can concentrate on are Christmas ones! Watched three yesterday!!

BiddyPop · 25/09/2018 10:15

I bought (and opened!) a pack of mini stollen bites from Lidl last night. DH was out at a meeting so didn't see....

I also play Christmas music during the year at various times - usually choral or orchestral types rather than "party classics" - there are some on YouTube (I used to have 3 stations bookmarked on Live365 before they shut down, but there are a few on TuneIn internet radio
still, just not AS good as the old Live365 ones).

My proper Christmas dirty secret is that I started knitting on my commute in January - about 30 minutes on the train each way daily and sometimes I get a spot to knit where I stand (or even get lucky and get a seat!). So I have managed to mostly progress my project for all my and DH's siblings, and their significant others (DHs, DWs, DPs...) - I think I am certainly ok for all my side, and should finish enough to cover DH's side as well...there are a few weeks left though, TG!

blacksmiths09 · 25/09/2018 10:16

I'm sat with QVC on in the background - they are doing Xmas stuff ALL DAY today! Wahoo!

I might treat myself to the 10x small yankee jar set on offer today........a lovely mixture of festive scents!

BiddyPop · 25/09/2018 10:22

Oh, and I set up the Sky box to record 2 movies on the "True Christmas" movies channel during the night, so I can watch them in peace while DH is away and once DD is gone to bed (and I don't start something halfway through or end up staying up until all hours to get a whole one).

AnyFarrahFowler · 25/09/2018 11:15

Another one who has started listening to Christmas music! 2.5 year old DS outed me to DH though, by singing Wham! Last Christmas so my secret is out... Blush

ShowOfHands · 25/09/2018 11:19

We have a chalkboard in the kitchen upon which I have written the number of days until Christmas. I hum Christmas songs in a morning as I change it. I'd do it all year round but DH says I can't do it until we get to 100 days to go.

blacksmiths09 · 25/09/2018 13:21

Postman just delivered these today......

Bought from Music Magpie......still missing Songs of Praise carols cd to arrive soon!

I have probably got about 30 xmas cds 🎄🎄🎄

I noticed those stick on hooks I didn’t take down after last Christmas and considered hanging the decorations back up today! Then I resisted every urge to “check on” my ornaments, then I pondered if I should become one of those people who dedicate a room to Christmas all year round.

Buddyelf · 26/09/2018 13:10

I am sat in work right now with my headphones on at lunch time - and I have my Christmas music on. It helps me relax and calms my anxiety and makes me happy!

ColinsVeryJolly · 26/09/2018 13:19
