Advent Calendars for men and boys

I would like to get DH an advent calendar as I'm getting myself a beauty one. Has anyone seen one?

Also one (not the lego one) for a 10yr old boy who isn't into arty/crafty stuff.

Or maybe I should just make my own!

I got dh a pork crackling one from John Lewis last year, he loved it! It was a snaffljng pig one

My DH has asked for the Snaffling Pig Co. pork crackling one.
Hotel Chocolat has wide choice of calendars this year ranging from £12.50 to £68.
There's a Baileys one in Debenhams and a Godiva one in John Lewis. John Lewis also has a wine one, a beer one and a gin one.
Aldi has a wine calendar for less than £50 but it's not available yet.

Just a warning on the Snaffling Pig Co. pork crackling calendar -

Got one last year for DH and the crackling is tooth-shatteringly hard - so disappointing Sad

If you don't want Lego would you go for a Playmobil one? I know 10 year old might think it's a bit babyish but there is a nice one with Father Christmas /Elves /Reindeer etc which would make a nice Christmas scene decoration for years to come. I'm quite tempted by that one for me this year (and I am way beyond 10). There are other Playmobil ones with different themes - one is a evil lair type thing. Bit bizarre.

I'm getting dh the kiehls one as he is very much into skincare and loves their products

Fstar · 20/09/2018 20:20

Got my dad a snaffling pigs, he said it was too hard. Got him a build your own radio, parts were too small for him to see what he was doing.

Marshmallow one was a bit too repetative. Clarins do a male version and for my teenage nephew im making him one (earphoes, blanket, torch, baking stuff, craft stuff etc)

Meet0nTheIedge · 20/09/2018 20:26

We really liked the Snaffling Pig one last year, they were no harder than other porkscratchings.

Match Attax do one.

Nicknamesalltaken · 20/09/2018 20:27

Costco do a good real ale one.

Destinesia · 20/09/2018 21:17

Thanks everyone, lots of ideas there.

For variety, I think I'm going to make them one each inspired by/copied from the suggestions you've made!

Beerhawk is good and last year they also did a canender one

Advent is meant to be a time of meditation, cleansing and preparing your soul ready to celebrate the birth of Christ, much as Lent is a period of fasting in the approach to Easter.
This is why Advent calendars traditionally contain pictures from the story of the nativity.

I’m a bit puzzled as to how chocolate and pork scratchings contribute to this process?!

Bowerbird5 · 21/09/2018 10:21

Me too.
I didn't even know adults had them. Also it makes Christmas very expensive looking at the price of some. The crackling might be very expensive if it involves losing a tooth for Christmas!

Meet0nTheIedge · 21/09/2018 18:45

We do have a picture one as well, and always will, but the pork scratchings were a nice treat.

fatgirlrunning · 21/09/2018 19:00

There's a Haynes build your own FM radio one on Amazon that I'm getting my eldest.

Enko · 21/09/2018 20:32

We did a Kellogs cereal one for DS last year He loved it.

year before was socks (in joke but OH he loved that)

I know there is a trump card one is that anygood?

I do think there is a real hole in the market there though.

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 21/09/2018 20:41

I’ve had this problem the last couple of years with 12 year old ds. Dd has had beauty ones this year I’m going to get her the Avon jewellery one but it’s hard finding something for ds1 as well.

Isadora2007 · 21/09/2018 20:56

Just give him some extra cash every day and I’m sure he’d be delighted at that age!
It can be a lot of extra money to get 24/25 small presents right before Xmas.
I do an advent basket for my best friend but that’s instead of a present for her. Or that’s her present...

afishnotabird · 21/09/2018 21:05

I did this for my dad last year, all random things from the supermarket at around £1 each. I alternated sweet treat, savoury and non edibles.

Actually Isadora that’s a great idea he’d love that. Never occurred to me to do that but he’s always looking for cash.
