Recommend me a family game

We spend a lot of time over Christmas playing games and I'd love to find a great new one for this year! Needs to be something that 6 people can play. We're all adults, but would prefer something that's not too mentally taxing (not something like Ticket to Ride, for example).

Games we already own that work quite well are Uno, 5 Second Rule, Smart Ass and Saboteur, so something in that sort of vein is what we're looking for.

Thanks!

Exploding Kittens?

LittleRedYoshi · 16/09/2018 22:20

We already have Exploding Kittens - good suggestion though, thanks!

Chameleon? Linkee?

Sushi Go is good fun - only goes up to 5 players though so you would need the party version which goes up to 8.

King of Tokyo is very popular in this house (dice rolling game) and I think it goes up to 6.
Fluxx is good fun (very random card game) and there are lots of different versions.

Quirkle Cubes

We got a really good one recently called 'Man Bites Dog'. You have to create outlandish newspaper headlines...

LittleRedYoshi · 16/09/2018 22:37

We already have Linkee (another good one!) but haven't heard of the other suggestions, I'll look into them - thanks!

Mexican Train is GREAT! I'm also a huge fan of Taboo and its successor (The Big Taboo? I think? Purple box). I also love Scattegories and Outburst which are old school but with a bit of luck have been updated recently? I love 5 Second Rule so hopefully we have similar taste.
I played Mr & Mrs last night and that was brilliant but depends on the relationship of the players - you don't have to be actual couples but it helps. Humm Bug is fun. Dare I say Cards Against Humanity? - can fall flat if not everyone has the same sense of humour though.

Dooble is great fun & v quick.

Sparklyfee · 16/09/2018 23:32

Articulate?

schooltripwoes · 16/09/2018 23:34

Another vote for Mexican Train 🚂

Codenames is good. It requires some thought but it's not particularly complicated.

Courtney555 · 16/09/2018 23:56

Rummikub!

If you like uno and linkee you'll love it.

Articulate also.

Justgivemeasoddingname · 16/09/2018 23:56

Is Cards Against Humanity your type of thing? We love it once the kids are in bed but understand it may not be your thing.

Spacezombies · 16/09/2018 23:56

We play The Unbelievable Truth. It's a radio show but it's good fun. There's a 'chairperson' and everyone else gets a topic a couple weeks before Xmas, and they need to write a funny essay with 5 truths in it. Everything else needs to be made up. Then they read it our and we have to buzz in when we think they've said a truth.

It's takes preparation so not good for an impromptu game but we enjoy it!

Haggisfish · 17/09/2018 00:00

Good thread!

sophisticatedsarcasm · 17/09/2018 20:55

Think word is pretty fun

WeeSassenach · 18/09/2018 08:18

Scattergories and Pictionary Man are the best games! We've had hours of fun with them and they always go down well on game nights!

FaithInfinity · 18/09/2018 08:21

Our family favourite is Rat Race! Made by Waddingtons (who made Monopoly) but it’s so much better! Basically you all own a business and you work your way up from working class to high society by buying and selling but you can make money when you go to the races and do the stock exchange. The best thing is even if you go bankrupt you just start again so no-one is ever out. You can get it for about a tenner on eBay.

Sammilouwho · 18/09/2018 08:22

Speedy Words! It’s great fun, requires some thought but it’s literally a say the first word the comes into your head game. We took it on holiday this year and that was with 5 adults and it played great.

PaulMorel · 18/09/2018 10:48

Our family loves to play games during christmas. We've decided to play christmas version of minute to win it! Everyone enjoyed and had fun.

One2Three4Five6 · 18/09/2018 11:36

Fluxx
Munchkin
King of Tokyo
Tsuro

Slightly more taxing:
Takenoko
Carcassone
Settlers of Catan

One2Three4Five6 · 18/09/2018 11:58

Rory's story cubes are also fun :)
