Christmas themed books?

GiraffeObsessedBaby · 14/09/2018 12:53

I want to start getting books together for a book “advent” calendar as such for my son. So I wanted to get a list of the best Christmas books.

The night before Christmas/nutcracker etc? Any great finds and obvious ones? I’m drawing a blank!!

I like the Christmas postman one. They love getting all the little letters and cards out. We have a snow bunny one that is also quite cute. I have four DC and I buy them each a Christmas book at the beginning of December each year. They go into the loft with the decorations and come back out beginning of December the next year. We then read them all throughout December. As a result we have loads of them. They also love the dinosaur that pooped Christmas, but i hate it and it makes me feel a bit sick (still have to read the awful thing several times each year!)

GummyGoddess · 14/09/2018 12:59

The snowman? I'm not Christian but the nativity can be a lovely story as well. I think there's a Christmas express train book that my youngest brother used to love, and a book about Rudolph.

Cheeseplantandpickle · 14/09/2018 13:07

There's a jolly postman one.
Lucy and Tom one.
Mog's christmas.

MissRainbowBrite · 14/09/2018 13:13

Kippers Christmas
Shhh! Don't tell Santa
The dinosaur who pooped Christmas
Stick Man

fuzzywuzzy · 14/09/2018 13:16

Mine used to love the Jolly Christmas postman, they still do.

fuzzywuzzy · 14/09/2018 13:17

Also guess how much I love you in winter the Christmas edition book is slightly pop up and really beautifully presented.

concretesieve · 14/09/2018 13:17

Jenny Overton's Thirteen Days of Christmas' is great fun. I know Enid Blyton isn't to everyone's taste but her Christmas book is a nice starter for UK Christmas traditions.

Lots of books include some lovely Christmas scenes, Little Women, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Chalet School. Antonia Forest - End of Term and a lovely Christmas picnic in Run Away Home.

NotTheOriginalGreen · 14/09/2018 13:21

The Grinch always goes down well here

There was another thread similar to this, I don’t know how to link to it.

I’ve just copied and pasted what I wrote on it!

Bookpeople are fantastic for books. Here’s a link to Mr Men festive collection, 10 books. £5.99

That’s 29 books for £25! Bargain🤗

There’s heaps more books, just search ‘Christmas’ on the search bar of Book People website.
I used to get them for my class at school as an end of year gift. They get delivered very quickly.

You’ve maybe inspired me to get a book advent calendar.....🤔🤔🤗

Hope this is helpful.

My children and I love ‘How Santa Really Works’

StarShapedWindow · 14/09/2018 14:42

Sorry, should have said the pop-up version.

newnamechange1234 · 14/09/2018 21:56

Yep, I did the same when my daughter was born and I wanted to create a library for her, went a bit crazy with the book shopping!!🙈

I loved books as a child and want to encourage that in others too. Happy to help.

GiraffeObsessedBaby · 14/09/2018 22:03

I was the same! The first thing I bought that was baby related when we'd decided to try to get pregnant was a absolutely gorgeous illustrated Christmas book I think it's called "let it snow". I buy books constantly for both little one and me lol.

And best point out he's only 10 months 😂 but he's obsessed with books atm he will quite happily take himself off the to the book corner of his room and sit flipping through books. I know that not reading them but still!

I also spent MONTHS tracking down the ladybird well loved tales classic collection. I've almost got a full set.

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 14/09/2018 22:14

I'm also a massive book lover, my girls have a huge collection and both always have a book in their hands age 9 and 6 😁

Our favourite Christmas ones have been (and are)
That's not my Santa/reindeer/penguin
Usbourne winter animals (touchy feely book)
The dinosaur who pooped Christmas
The very smelly sprout
Father Christmas needs a wee
Aliens in underpants love panta Claus
The little fir tree
Various Disney/character themed ones to suit current interests!
Stick man
Mogs Christmas
Kevin the carrot from aldi advert book.
Various books from the John Lewis adverts.
The jolly Christmas postman
How Santa works

I can't think of the others as they are in the loft. (We have a massive box full!)

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 14/09/2018 22:15

Oh and Santa comes to (placename)
Always fun pointing out places we know :)

PrivateParkin · 14/09/2018 22:18

I mention this in every thread about children's books that ever comes up, but Teddy Robinson Meets Father Christmas is the best kids' Christmas story imho - simple, magical, funny and sweet. It's one of the stories in the book The Adventures of Teddy Robinson.

Isadora2007 · 14/09/2018 22:20

Mogs Christmas
Nativity stories
A Xmas pop up one called the 12 bugs of Xmas
The 12 days of Xmas
Percy parkkeeper One snowy night
Mick Inkpen- Jingle Bells (about mice)
Mrs pepperpots Christmas
Christmas poetry books
The witch at Christmas (American series from the 70s/80s in scholastic books range)
Jesus’s Christmas party
Lucy and Toms Christmas, Snow angel, something about a Christmas play- all by Shirley Hughes
The night before Xmas
Polar express

PrivateParkin · 14/09/2018 22:21

There's also this OP - it is touches on the religious side but it's mainly about the animals, if he likes that sort of thing

AnimalsChristmasEve

GiraffeObsessedBaby · 14/09/2018 22:23

Thank you!!! Honestly made my day making a note of all of these. Also the Percy the park keeper stories were my mums favourites to read to us when we were little and she's got them out again for my son (she gave away all of our other childhood books so this is extra special).

OP posts:
fassbender · 14/09/2018 22:24

My kids loved 'That's Not My Santa' of the That's Not My books when they were tiny and now they are older they lived 'The Empty Stocking' by Richard Curtis now they're 8and 10 :)

Tiggles · 14/09/2018 22:53

Farmyard tales Christmas (lift the flap)
When bit older older tolkeins father Christmas letters are brilliant
The fourth king by ted sieger (lovely story and illustrations)
On angel wings by morpurgo also gorgeous when a bit older

ChristmasIsMyFavourite · 15/09/2018 07:07

We have a box full of Christmas books, to be honest a lot of them are too wordy and dull.

My favourite from when they were younger was Maisy’s Christmas Day and Spot’s Christmas (?)

SocialPiranha · 15/09/2018 07:32

Father Christmas needs a wee is still a favourite here
Lucy and toms Christmas
The snow lady
Father Christmas
The jolly Christmas postman
Christmas in Exeter street

There’s loads more but our Christmas books are boxed up until December. And I can’t remember where.
