Has anyone purchased stocking fillers from Aliexpress?

Hi, I've just found the website Aliexpress and there are a few items on there that would be ideal for DS as stocking fillers. Has anyone ordered from here? Is it ok for small items?
I also saw a couple of cute dresses for DD (about $5 each). Is the clothing ok, or should I avoid?
Thanks

Oh I'm so following this thread. Came across this site recently and the bargains are INSANE. Just not sure if it's reliable...

Shufflebumnessie · 08/09/2018 16:02

Snap! Some of the items / prices on there seem too good to be true!! I'm a little wary of ordering but if others have had good experiences then I may not want to see my credit card bill at the end of the month Grin.

My understanding is that it's similar to Wish. Items can take a while to get here and some of the sizes can be different to UK sizing. But it's a legit site if that's what you mean.

AnduinsGirl · 08/09/2018 16:07

Well I'm gonna stick a few items in my cart - about £20 worth. If they all arrive in good shape, it's a win; if they don't it's not the end of the world!

I have bought a few things (last year), order early as some bits took a long time to come, it’s a bit hit and miss with quality but good for stocking fillers.

LongtimeLurker29 · 08/09/2018 16:57

I have ordered but make sure you buy them well in advance as they take a while to be delivered x

GummyGoddess · 08/09/2018 17:02

Yes, I buy things from there but I select which seller to buy the item from based on reviews. Preferably ones with photos.

Would suggest not purchasing electronics or toys though as I don't know what sort of safety standards they've been subject to.

Alanamackree · 08/09/2018 17:08

I’ve bought a few things last year and ordered more this year.
I’ve unknowingly ordered things from China that take ages to arrive from Amazon. At least this way I know what’s what.

I read through the reviews carefully, which will give you a good sense of the quality of the product and often will have more realistic pictures too. If I haven’t ordered from a seller before I might check reviews on a few of their products to see whether things are packaged well, shipped quickly, how they handle issues etc.

I wouldn’t order anything that a child is likely to put in their mouth. And I avoid electronics.

Shipping takes ages, but everything eventually turned up. I ordered OG doll clothes (a touch tight maybe, some fabrics better than others), OG doll shoes (amazing quality), sports tops (excellent), ribbons (excellent), lego tape (excellent), grid-it’s (great), and a Christmas fake-lego train (very minor issues)

On the whole I’ve been very happy. Sellers have been easy to communicate with.

I order from here all the time Blush I'm a bit addicted. In about ninety transactions I've only had issues twice, broken items, but both times had a full refund.
Just read the descriptions carefully, especially measurements, and don't rely solely on photos as they tend to use stock photos for a lot of things.
Latest buy was a pure silk scarf for MIL, cost about £4 inc delivery, took a week to arrive but I normally allow a month.

I buy from wish which is basically the same. Go onto youtube and search for videos, some are pretty funny. I ordered christmas ribbon which was great, ordered some eggs that hatch a dino, they are flippin tiny! Also if buying for kids just keep in mind they wont have the same saftey standards

Been using Ali for about 3 years. It’s all been great (don’t think I’ve spent more than about £10 on any one item though.
Advice, size up - their sizing is very small (they should have sizing guides but I have been caught out)
Give yourself time, most stuff is about 2 weeks, I am still waiting for some stuff after 6 weeks though
Check for free postage
It’s a great sire

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 08/09/2018 20:27

Site - not sire!

Quality is hit and miss. Have bought a few Xmas things from there before from fairy lights to decorations. Definitely good for funny novelty gifts. They are usually better value for money than Wish, which tend to charge a fortune for postage.

Always check the reviews and bear in mind the difference in Asian sizing for clothes. Even kids clothes can come up small so see if there’s a size chart. The advice about never buying toys is right. I’d also be careful about things like make up or anything that plugs in, as they won’t have gone through the usual safety checks.

EssentialHummus · 08/09/2018 21:13

I agree with PPs. I buy a lot of clothing for DD (and clothing gifts for friends' children) on there, and size-wise you need to be careful. Only order things that have a sizable number of (positive) reviews, and order well in advance.

NualaCassia · 08/09/2018 22:05

I don’t buy clothes from Aliexpress I’ve bought the dc a MP3 player each from Aliexpress for $3 each (about £1.50) and they seem to be great, we’ve downloaded a lot of songs onto each so it’s all ready for them. Also ordered packets of orbeez. A while ago we ordered a big Star Wars framed canvas for my ds1’s room and that was really good.

Everything was free shipping so that draws me towards AliExpress over Wish.

GummyGoddess · 08/09/2018 22:09

The most I've spent is £18 and that was very recent. I bought the most beautiful backpack in the world. It's covered in little grey triangles but in the light they shift between purple and green. It's actually really good quality, possibly aimed at students though instead of being my changing bag, I've had many admiring looks from small children Grin

FairyFace · 09/09/2018 17:18

I have been buying from Ali Express for the last 6 years. I've gotten and loved the following :

Christmas Pjs for kids, loads of styles, around 4 pound mark.
Handbags
False lashes, less than a quid, and the same as what you get in Boots etc
I bought a load of Christmas brooches for all the old fogies in the family, they loved them , ended up wearing a gorgeous holly one with red and green diamonds myself all through dec.
Kids little toys, fidget spinners, them squashy yokes they love. Cute jewellery for little girls like best friend chain and one for whoever they choose.
Have bought some lovely blouses and skirts and dresses. Would stay away from Mens clothes, way too small and not goo wearing.
God I've gotten loads, trying to think of them all now.
Oh yes they sell the insta pix camera things, the film , dirt cheap on Ali, think its like 20 quid for a 20 pack in stores.
