The start of Christmas

I'm not a person who starts preparing for Christmas months in advance, but my choir started rehearsals last night for our Christmas concert, and I immediately got that lovely, warm feeling that comes with carols and other seasonal music.

So what makes you start feeling the joy? Assuming you are someone who does enjoy at least some of it ...

When the shops start clearing one of the aisles and you know it's for the Christmas stock.

When I see Mince Pies appearing in Sainsburys (they are very nice BTW)

And when I hear 'Fairytale of New York' (Pogues&Kirsty) on the radio

There’s a Michael McIntyre sketch about the smoke clearing from the last firework on Bonfire Night and everyone going “Christmas? Christmas!” And I must admit, that was always me. Now we have DD I will have to contain myself I til after her birthday on the 9th November!

Also - seeing the Coca Cola “holidays are coming” advert Grin

Strictly starting on TV is the start of my countdown.

My birthday is on Bonfire Night (50 days before Christmas) and it’s definitely downhill from there!

After Remembrance Sunday.

As soon as I see the Coca Cola 'Holiday's are coming' advert I know that Christmas is really on the way

Strictly is the start of coziness, but after Guy Fawkes night for Christmas.

For me, practically, it starts around June/July as I gradually begin buying my children presents. This helps me budget properly. We seem to spend an absolutely extortionate amount on Christmas food over December so I try to balance this by having the main gifts in before then. I start getting the flashes of a lovely, warm feeling when I receive emails about the various Christmas themed experiences that happen in my area. Xx

DrCoconut · 06/09/2018 16:30

Strictly is the start of the lovely autumn for me, Christmas gets real for me when the Christmas lights go on in the town centre 😍
