GoPro camera, anyone know of a cheaper alternative?

DS, has said he would love a GoPro camera for Christmas this year but he does understand they are too expensive, so he is happy to have a cheaper alternative. Does any one have any recommendations? I really don’t know where to start. Ideally, it would do as much as possible for as little as possible! Budget would be around 150, up to 200.

Following, with a much lower budget!

Here is a go pro session which is just in your budget.

Sorry don't know how to do the short links!

this one has great reviews and came up as £10 off voucher on mine which you can add by ticking the box , so £69.99 down to £59.99.

As user said, there’s the GoPro session 4 which I got for my partner last year. He doesn’t use it often but it’s very good quality when he does use it. I set up camel camel camel alert, it went down to £119 one day and then there was also a £10 off voucher that amazon does occasionally (may just be for prime members)

We got a cheaper version from amazon think it was £70 odd for our trip to Disneyland this summer but the quality was absolutely horrific. It said it was "go pro" quality but honestly it was shockingly poor. And advertised as 4K as well!
Just be wary of the description of some of them. I know go pro are expensive but you do get 1000000% better pictures/video.
I appreciate that it's for a child/young adult but in my opinion I'd get the session for that little bit extra.

Thanks everyone, I will look into the links. DS is 13, so not a small child, the quality will be important (to me as well, I’d rather spend a bit extra for it). I have seen the GoPro session but was worried if it was the cheapest version it wouldn’t do what he wants, so maybe a cheaper version with more features would be better. However if the quality is poor it wouldn’t be worth it.

70 pounds is not cheap for a cheap version! That sounds s real rip off regarding the quality.

We had an alternative and whist the quality was good the horizon was always bowed - sort of fish eye lens which was so annoying as we wanted to use it at the beach.

No it wasn't cheap at all! I was quite cross because the reviews gave it 5 * proper giving it all the "this is better than the go pro" so thought it was a bargain for £70 if it was like a go pro! Sadly not! When we put it on the tv there was no sound and everything was so fuzzy!

Sorry to hear that User, I would have probably bought it as well based on the reviews. Thanks for letting me know. Being selfish, it has probably saved me from an expensive mistake and a very disappointed DS, helping me though unfortunately doesn’t refund your 70 quid. . Thanks knock, I think it really is starting to sound like I should get the GoPro, even the most basic.

I have a cheap version which I bought from amazon in the Black Friday feels last year, I think I paid around £35, it comes with loads of extras. There are loads of different ones on Amazon from around £20, if you read the reviews many people have compared them with the go pro and say there’s not much difference. I have used mine a couple times and got really clear videos.
