4/5/6/7 etc gift limit

Does anyone else do the 4 gift limit thing, or 5/6/7 limit?

We did it last year, but people in my family dont tend to read much really, so the read was kind of wasted. Are there any other variations other than want, need, read and wear?

I doubt we will stick to the 4 gift limit anyway to be honest. My mum loves christmas and loves to get loads of little presents for everyone. Trying to stop her is pointless. Swear sometimes she is an elf.

I was going to suggest watch (dvd) but I think “read” is supposed to be something “worthy” or improving. But Victorian in its overtones really

How about swap read to play? You could do a board game

Watch or play could work. Could get my partner a game for his playstation.

It's DSs first Christmas and I'm doing that. Family members are going to buy him loads of useless crap toys so I'll get him just a few gifts.

But what about a favorite comic or an annual?

Even if the DCs don’t read for pleasure, is there anything they are interested in that you can get a reference book about - epic stories of skateboarding heroes or a skills book on tricks, a cook book, a “how to draw dinosaurs” (or whatever), tips for their favorite computer games or how to do coding/use a raspberry pi.....

Basically, anything that is reading material but would tickle some interest to make them want to read it.

I meant to add, for older dcs especially, or any who do another language, getting a comic or periodical aimed at their age in that other language might also be an interesting idea to make that language a little more real and a little more fun.
