When do you put up your tree?

I'm just wondering when everyone puts up their trees.

My DP likes to put ours up on his birthday on the 12th Dec , however I get to excited and he caves in and we normally put ours up the weekend before the 12th.

Weekend before Christmas. And I always want to take it down the first weekend after Christmas (but DH calls me Scrooge & we have to have the blasted thing up for ages).

OlderThanAverageforMN · 02/09/2018 18:37

Weekend before Xmas here too and down first week of Jan. I like that we have it for a limited time. Makes it feel more special. I feel so disappointed in companies who are already marketing Xmas, by the time we get we there we are already fed up with the whole thing.

First weekend in December Smile, assemble Fri night, decorate Sat night once toddler is in bed

obviouslyperfect · 02/09/2018 18:48

Aren’t all the needles off by Christmas Day if you put it up in the first week of December?

MsSquiz · 02/09/2018 19:07

As soon as I can in December, DH tries to be traditional and I usually just start to get the tree and decorations out before then and crack on, until he caves and gives me a hand...

Usually everything gets taken down the week between Christmas and New Year

NachoCheese22 · 02/09/2018 19:15

November 30th so when we wake up on December 1st it's officially Christmas! Comes down a couple of days before New Year.

YerAuntFanny · 02/09/2018 19:15

First Saturday of December, down the 28th.

I love the build up to Christmas but once it's done I'm over it and ready to move on!

GreenMeerkat · 02/09/2018 19:16

First weekend in December.

House opposite us was lit up to ridiculous proportions from early November. That i find stupid.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 02/09/2018 19:17

1st weekend of December! Accompanied by Christmas music, mulled wine, mince pies and cheese.

candlefloozy · 02/09/2018 19:18

We moved last test and it was up a few days before. This year maybe end of November

GreenMeerkat · 02/09/2018 19:18

@obviouslyperfect it depends on the species of tree.

Nordman firs are the most popular type of tree these days due to good needle retention.

Used to be Norwegian pine which smell divine but lose needles after 2 weeks.

I used to work in a garden centre bye, not just a strange Christmas tree boff.

UnapologeticallyUnhinged · 02/09/2018 19:23

1st December then down on New Years Day. I always have a Christmas film on in the background and mince pies ready for when it's finished. I love Christmas despite having worked in retail for over 2 decades where we put the decorations up in November and unceremoniously rip them down on Christmas Eve night whilst preparing for sales for Boxing Day!

GreenMeerkat Grin

Thanks. I go for shape and I’m not sure which sort it is. Don’t like those with the huge single stick sticking out the top!

UnapologeticallyUnhinged · 02/09/2018 19:25

Oh and I have to have a fake tree which gets tied to a hook in the ceiling with fishing nylon. My cats are climbers!

FreezerBird · 02/09/2018 19:29

Christmas Eve. Down on twelfth night.

Kismett · 02/09/2018 19:42

(American) Generally our tree would go up over Thanksgiving weekend (November) and come down New Year’s Day.

73kittycat73 · 02/09/2018 19:42

Usually the 6th of November.

obviouslyperfect · 02/09/2018 19:43

73kittycat73

November? Is that a typo?!

mumofthreee · 02/09/2018 19:48

End of Nov, take down before new year..... SORRY

DoubleLottchen · 02/09/2018 19:58

I like to put it up the day after school breaks up.

But last year we almost didn't manage to buy one in time, they had nearly all sold out by then. Ended up with a tiny little one from the supermarket, and it was very stressful.

So this year I'll make sure to buy it around the 10th Dec and keep it hidden out of sight in the garden until school ends.

One2Three4Five6 · 02/09/2018 20:01

We just put it up whenever we feel like it. Usually the last weekend or week of November, Last year it was mega early, much to the chagrin of some around us, it went up around Mid Nov, due to a series of busy times. I can't reach our ceilings to put the Decs up, even on a ladder so DH has to do it, and he was going to be out of the country the week we had planned to do it, and it HAS to be up before December starts.
We are rather Christmas mad in our house though to be fair.
This year it will probably go up the weekend of the 24th/25th November as the weekend after that is the 1st/2nd of December and I love to have the decs up before the December starts.

Bearbehind · 02/09/2018 20:01

First weekend in December and down before New Year.

Unless you are religious I truly don't understand why you'd put it up just before Christmas and leave it up until January.

Anyone who's on a Christmas thread in September clearly appreciates the run up to Christmas - that's why mine goes up early and cones down as soon as it's over.

One2Three4Five6 · 02/09/2018 20:03

This year I think it may be even earlier though, as I am already feeling Christmassy after we have done a bulk of present buying, plus for some reason my DD has been singing Jingle Bells already!

I'm just ready for Autumn/Winter and snuggling in the lounge with a good film/book and hot chocolate under a fleecy blanket.

UnapologeticallyUnhinged · 02/09/2018 20:14

To be honest I am wondering if it's too early to put all my autumn stuff out?! (Orange/brown cushion covers/blankets/felt pumpkins) Even though the sun has beaming down all day, I'm willing on the chill!

Shufflebumnessie · 02/09/2018 20:36

In our previous house we always put the tree up mid December as we had so little space that any earlier and we were sick of it by Christmas Eve. We moved house a couple of years ago (more space) and DS started school so it's become a tradition that the tree goes up after school on the first Friday in December, and the rest of the house gets decorated over that weekend (outside lights etc).
